Do you like where you work?

I'm feeling a little down because I've been a nurse for a while now but still have not found my place in nursing. I want to enjoy going to work and doing patient care. I understand no unit is perfect, but I seem to have only found one really cohesive unit in my career and then I had to leave the job when I moved. I would love to find a unit to work on where most nurses support each other and are well supported by management (i.e. adequate staffing, education, orientation, etc.). Do any of you work in such a place? It can be in any setting, I'm willing to learn. I'm a BSN RN with few years of experience in many different settings...I just haven't found my niche yet.

I don't really think that there is any "perfect" unit. In my experience as a staff nurse for two years and a traveler for three years, every unit has pros and cons. Management really has a direct hand in unit morale. Do you have any nurse friends who work on other units and love their jobs? Maybe they could help you get your foot in the door. Or you could shadow some nurses in different areas? Is travel nursing an option for you? I can put up with anything for three months! Sometimes I cry when I walk out of door on my last day because I'm sad to leave. Sometimes I run out of the door. Fast.

Have you looked at home health?

Thanks for the advice elemenRN and Rachel0609. I have applied to a couple of medical device sales jobs. Maybe the change will be what I need for now...if I can get in.

I love my job! At least I tell myself this. And today, I think I had an awesome day!

I could go on AN to b@tch about my job. But instead I make a conscious choice to love my job. I remind myself: I love my job! I love my patients / residents. I like my boss!

Rather than focus on the other boss who is in over her head. Rather than focus on the b@tche nurses at work who drive me crazy. Rather than focus on my rotating schedule. Rather than focus on our weird administrator. Rather than worry about the aides who really do p@ss me off.

I make a conscious choice to love my job. And take zoloft, lol!

This works for me.

But I had a nursing job before that I hated. So I know how you feel. I don't wanna feel like that again, so I pray and focus on the positive.

HTH!
