Anyone waiting on acceptance letter from Tidewater Community College VA

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Hi Im a student at TCC and I submitted my application in middle end of April, just wondering how long it normally takes to hear something, I am waiting everyday for the mailman about to drive myself loco. Is anyone else waiting for there letter from TCC. Please share with me.

Congrats to you too!!!!!!:yeah:This has been the longest road I've ever traveled. Now waiting for October is gonna be hard as well.(already been waiting since March). I'm starting a new job in the meantime. Hopefully that will keep me preoccupied so I don't drive myself crazy.

1ldowife & 1mrsbug,

Hi! My name is Mike and I received my acceptance letter from TCC Nursing 2 days ago and I'm also in Cohort 2.

I already set-up a physical exam with my doctor tomorrow. I will be paying for the background check this weekend online.

Now, my questions are...

1. Are we supposed to write a check of $29 insurance and send it to TCC?

2. Do you have any idea what to expect during physical exam? I have yet to ask my doctor because I don't want to miss the deadline on July 31. My acceptance letter was dated June 29 but I actually received it 2 days ago...

3. If I understood this correctly, Cohort groups will go to classes all together until they graduate?

4. I can't enroll using my TCC SIS to any of the Nursing classes listed. Are we going to have Q & A session on our interview this July 17?

5. I wasn't really expecting to start too soon because I still have Eng 112, Microbiology and Social Ethics to be completed supposedly this fall 2008. Do you think I should complete micro this fall and ask the Nursing administrators to transfer me to Cohort 3 or 4 next year?

I'm so clueless.. I'm sorry for all of these questions..

I wasn't expecting to start this October because I still have my full time job at Chesapeake and I live in Virginia Beach. It's going to be a hectic nursing program!

Sorry, meant to hit Quote, not thanks :)

1. You pay the $29 to NSO. You should have the info for signing up in your packet--if not, you'll get it on the 17th

2. My physical was pretty basic: height, weight, a once-over, and the blood drawn for titers. And the PPD. Don't forget to get the PPD.

3. They stagger when the cohorts start: Cohort 1 starts in August, Cohort 2 in October, 3 in January, and 4 in March (they gradaute in May 2010, July 2010, August 2010 and December 2010).Your cohort takes classes together the entire time so you're going to get to know these people really well, though as time goes on, you will gain a few new faces from earlier cohorts who had to repeat a class.

4. They'll go over that on the 17th with you. It doesn't really matter for the first class anyway: you're all stuck together in the same class 4 days a week, so ignore whatever the course catalog may say.

5. Doing them all before you start makes you look better during the admissions process, but you don't need everything finished to start, just the important things: A&P 1-2 and Math 1. Everything else you can do on the way--you just can't graduate until you finish them.

Since you're starting in October, I'd recommend seeing if you could knock off one of those classes in the first 8 week session while you're waiting. I DO NOT recommend taking another class while you are taking Fundamentals: it's 4 days a week from 8:30-14:30 and information comes at you hard and fast. So that class you really need to take alone. After you get through Fundamentals, then tackle some of those other classes. Generally, the earlier you can take the classes and be done with them, the better because second-year is very hectic. BTW the program continues through the summer, so don't be fooled into thinking you get the summer session off to take any non-nursing classes.

Or you could ask to drop back to Cohort 3 or 4 and take everything you need to that first semester.

Oh yeah, if you haven't taken Math 1, either take it ASAP or see if you can test out of it. They don't care what other higher math classes you have taken: no Math 1, no nursing program.

Good luck!

Meriwhen, thanks for replying!

It helped me alot!

I'm concerned with microbiology because if I accepted to be in Cohort 2 this October, will it impact any of the nursing classes because I only completed API & APII? I have no microbiology experience at all because I wasn't expecting to receive my acceptance letter.

Also, how is the ratio of males:females in your class? I experienced anatomy 1 & 2 in chesapeake and we had 3-4 males in a 35 class.

Thanks again.

Mike

Hey mikecap

I got my acceptance letter in march so I've had more time to get the physical done. mine was pretty basic too. Except for the fact that I had to go to tricare and thats always an ordeal in and of itself. I've finished all my pre reqs. It really baffles me how they assigned these cohorts. I had an application in since the fall, I got a phone call in december saying I was waitlisted for March 08. Heard nothing else until april, then got an acceptance letter for October. what is that about?

Don't know about the male to female ratio. in my ap classes the guys in the class were all doing something other than nursing.

I don't think not having micro during fundamentals is going to hurt you. I'd definitely get it done this semester though. It was easier, in my opinion than A/P. lab was a cake walk. (compared to A/P 1).

ugggg that math 1 class!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, how cool is this???

See you guys next thursday.

Hi 1ldowife!

I will be taking my Math 1 class this Aug to Sep ( 1month)

I submitted my application on May 13,2008 - 2 days before the deadline and I wasn't expecting to receive that acceptance letter 2 days ago! That was very quick! Just less than 2 months. I really want to finish my ENG112, BIO150 and PHI 226 this FALL 2008.

I will go to the interview and ask the Nursing Director if she will let me transfer from Cohort 2 into 3 or 4. I really wish she will consider my request, if not I'm just taking ENG 112 and complete BIO150 & PHI 226 before I graduate.

I have to finish all Pre-reqs this Fall and I have to give my employer some time to let me transition from full-time into part-time work as well. I can't afford to lose my insurance and tuition reimbursement from my employer.

Where did you get your micro bio150? I tried to get it this summer but i dropped it because K.Bhruher of VA Beach campus is too much! I have to find a decent professor. Who was your professor?

See you all next thursday too... I wish I won't be the only male student there :imbar

I need some support from this forum . Thanks to you all!:yeah:

Not having Micro won't affect you too much in Fundamentals, so don't worry. It probably won't affect you much in the first year at all: the micro I took (not at TCC) wasn't the most in-depth micro class--it was geared at healthcare workers and not for bio majors so it was more overview--but I'm doing fine.

It's about the same ratio of men to women.

I don't know if this will help any but I did my micro at Norfolk campus. At the time I did it in the summer and had dr.Hill-Cummings, she has recently moved to Japan and this happened during our last week of Micro and she had dr.Hecht come in a replace her, he was pretty good and the test was easy and the lab was very easy and fun. I got an A out of that class.

The cohort system is fairly new: they started it in 2007 and they are still (unfortunately) working the kinks out.

MikeCap were do you work. I work for Sentara so I know what you mean about not losing your tutition reinburstment and insurance.

I took bio 150 @ chesapeake campus with Deputy. It was challenging, but doable. I had a friday morning lab and there were a couple of nursing students there (1 was in her 2nd to last semester of the program) they did the lecture on line with Ms. Deputy and did lab friday mornings.

Thanks! I'm debating with my girlfriend if I should take micro, eng 112, mth 1 and phi 226 this fall because I want to focus on the nursing program when I'm ready. Also, I work at First Data and they pay for all my school expenses. :)

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to be selected in the program because I'm tired working in my cubicle for more than 5 years now. I have been in the same company since I turned 20. Now that I'm 25, I know that I want to help people because I'm a hands-on guy. I noticed that I like helping people as long as I know how to solve it.

I emailed Professor Bell if she would allow me to change my Cohort 2 status into Cohort 3 because I really want to finish those classes this fall 2008. She emailed back that she can't answer this until the orientation/interview day. I'm hoping for the best! If she denies my request, I will be in Cohort 2 this October 16! I already worked so hard at this point and I don't want to miss the opportunity.

I have been reading some threads on this website and it seems like I have to do part-time or quit my work!

A question to all of you, Are you going full time/ part time work while attending TCC nursing program?
