Any VCU AMSN/ABSN Summer 2012 Hopefuls?

Hi everyone, I'm new to allnurses.com. I recently applied to VCU's accelerated MSN program. I KNOW I'M EARLY, BUT I'M VERY ANXIOUS. The deadline is nov 1st. We won't hear anything back till February. I just wanted to put something out here to see what people thought, who applied, and if they know anything about admission process. Any input and insight is welcomed. (amount of students accepted, gpa calculation, etc.)

Talk to you soon,

Thanks for the advice! I think that's the best course of action. As for the wait, I am literally counting down the days! I hope everyone of this forum gets in as well. Good Luck Guys!

Letters have begun to go out. I started a new thread.

Well Guys, I got a letter stating that I didn't make the cut. I'm not really sure why though, I thought I was a good candidate. Guess I wasn't good enough. No worries, I still have another school as my back up plan. Won't hear anything from them until March though. I'm really sad I won't be in class with some of you, but I wish you guys the best of luck in your program and all your endeavors. No matter what happens, keep striving for your goals!!! I know I will be!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Just wanted to pop in and share an obsessive update, ha! I am getting so nervous and excited to start stalking my mailbox in a couple of weeks. In the meantime I have stalked my on-line application. Last week it was marked "ready to review" with program "not selected". Now the "ready to review" is gone and the program is changed to "Nursing" instead of "not selected". I figure it doesn't mean much else then whatever decision has been made on my app is finally done...whether it be good or bad. Now, if they will just send out the letter in the mail and let me off this roller coaster ride I am on every day.

The note I got with my MSN waitlist letter said BSN letters would go out mid-Jan

Thank you for the info and I will update on the other thread as I get news. I wish we were hearing from others that are waiting. I feel like I am the only ABSN. This is really exciting...I guess it could be coming any day? I am PRAYING so hard for a large envelope. MAS28 I am so sorry you didn't get in. I was really looking forward to the opportunity to meet you. It also makes me nervous...I feel like you were a really strong candidate and that we were pretty on par...if you didn't get in it doesn't give me a lot hope really. Make sure you post the result of your March notification and I will definitely be pulling for you. You have been so positive, upbeat and great about keeping this thread going. You kept me from feeling alone in this. I appreciate that. Best of luck!

Kellyski, I am waiting for the ABSN program, too! I have been a silent observer for a while now. You're not alone! I am dying to find out!!!

It is great to hear from you Kaner! I was hoping someone would come out and say hi. I completely understand the idea of keeping quiet and holding one's breath until finding out....but I am just so nervous and excited I have to "say" something! ha!

I have thought about shooting off any email just to see if they will share the "day" they mail the decisions out. I live very close by, so it should be in mailbox the following day at the latest. I just don't have the nerve though and if they actually recieved 1500 applications, I don't want to be one of "those"...but waiting is so hard.

Have you checked your on-line app for changes or updates?

Good luck and here's to hoping we all get that big envelope tomorrow! :)

HOLY COW... do they really get 1500 applicants for the ABSN program alone? I was looking online to see what the acceptance rate is to the school of nursing, particularly the accelerated program, but to no avail. I live in Illinois, so I probably won't be one of the first people to hear a verdict! I looked at my application page, and everything is the same. It says "Current Program: Bachelor of Science." But it has said that since I completed the application back in September.

The thing that makes me most nervous is that I have yet to finish two of the prerequisite courses: A&P part II and Microbiology. I will be done with them by the start of May, but I would hate to be overlooked for not having them done prior to applying. They said they just have to be done by enrollment time... so I'm banking on that!

Anyway, I love reading people's thoughts on here, as I can see they are completely in the same boat as me (and you)! It's nice to talk to someone other than my boyfriend about it who simply replies "Oh you'll get in." When really he has no idea how tough it is!!!

Anyway.. good luck to you! Stay in touch :)

Good luck to you too! 1500 is about right and I am in the same boat as you. I am completely A&P II now. My class just started this week, but will be done the first week of May. My husband is pretty sick of hearing about it too and is dying for the decision to come in the mail...so the we can get on with our lives! LOL He didn't really know how hard it was in the beginning, but since talking to other people, he spends a lot of time recently telling me how smart I am and all the other opportunities out there. I think he is afraid I will fall into a funk if I am not accepted. I'll bounce back...but right now I just want to KNOW. :)

When I went to an info session I thought they said 350 applicants. I could be confusing that with something else though. Will have to look it up in my notes.

I also heard a rumor that applications accross the board were significantly down this year at VCU due to the roughly 30% tuition increase.
