Several schools, hospitals and technical centers in the area offer nursing diploma, certificate and degree programs. The following list contains a summary of each location's programs, admission requirements and contact information.

Bon Secours Memorial School of Nursing offers a diploma program toward RN licensure. Requirements: High school diploma (GPA 2.5) or GED; completion of biology, college-prep chemistry and algebra I classes; recommendations and transcripts. Chesterfield Technical Center offers a certificate in practical nursing. Requirements: Rising Chesterfield Public Schools seniors; for adults, U.S. high school diploma or GED; pre-entrance exam scores and references. Henrico County-St. Mary's Hospital School of Practical Nursing offers a certificate program in practical nursing and a certified nurse's aide program. Requirements: rising seniors; for adults, high school diploma or GED; aptitude test, recommendations and transcripts. Info: Tammy Williams, Henrico.k12.va.us/ adulteducation; 652-3823.

J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College (downtown) offers a nurse's aide program that prepares students to take the state certification exam; a one-year certificate program in practical nursing, which leads to eligibility to take the LPN licensure exam; and an associate degree in applied science, which leads to eligibility to take the RN licensure exam. Requirements: (LPN and RN programs) High-school graduate with algebra, biology and chemistry or GED, college placement test and NET test. Richmond Public Schools offers nurse's assistant classes that prepare students to take the state certification exam. Info: Rosa Williamson, 2020 Westwood Ave., Richmond, 23230; 780-6237; rwillia3@richmond.k12.va.us.

John Tyler Community College offers an associate degree in applied science. Students successfully completing either the traditional daytime nursing program or the LPN/paramedic-to-RN transition program are qualified to take the RN licensing exam. Admission is competitive. Requirements: Minimum GPA of 2.5; must achieve a certain score on a nursing pre-admission exam. Info: jtcc.edu/nursing.

Old Dominion University offers both the Bachelor of Science in nursing and Master of Science in nursing. A bachelor's degree in health science is also offered. RN-to-BSN program is available online. Offers five master's programs: nurse leader, nurse educator, family nurse practitioner, women's health nurse practitioner and nurse midwifery. Nurse leader and nurse educator are available online. Classes are available at ODU's Richmond campus and broadcast via digital satellite to JTCC (Chester). Southside Regional Medical Center Professional Schools offers a registered nurse program. The School of Nursing offers a five- semester, hospital-based diploma program for RN licensure. An LPN- to-RN bridge program is available. These programs are offered in a traditional classroom setting and on a distance education platform. Admission requirements are available at srmconline.com. University of Virginia School of Nursing offers programs from baccalaureate through doctoral degrees (Ph.D. and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), including master's specialty programs (Acute Care NP and CNS, Family NP, Pediatric NP, Psychiatric-Mental Health CNS and NP, public health and administration); Direct Entry MSN: Clinical Nurse Leader (for non-nurses) program; and post-master's certificate programs. Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees; also, accelerated BS and accelerated MS programs (BS/MS) for non- nursing college graduates, RN-to-MS program; and post-MS certificate programs.
