MCI LPN Program

by cayces

I started MCI RN program in May and failed A&P. I had a 4.0 at community college this last year and attended college 20 years ago as a psychology major. I made straight A's on the prereqs also. Boy, when I flunked, I flunked well. I was so mortified. I decided to attend the LPN program in August now. Can anyone give me any info on the program? Now, I am started to fear I will fail this also. I am 43 and wonder if I am attempting to much. I would love any info.

I graduated from their LPN Program in January '09. If you did that well in pre-req's for RN and have a good history with school, you shouldn't really have any problem. It of course takes a lot of extra hours to catch up, i.e. doing homework and studying nightly, but as long as you can devote the time needed to know you have a grasp on the material you should do great.

I only had trouble in Endocrine towards the end of the schooling, I hate HORMONES! Good Luck

Thank you. Was it difficult finding work afterwards? I have been told that the local hospitals have phased LPN's out. If you can give me any other info it would be VERY appreciated!

Every one of my classmates that I've kept in touch with work outside of hospitals. Most of the hospitals have very limited LPN spots, and most people that get those seem to have worked there as a CNA or somehow else to get a foot in the door, then who knows how long the wait was until a position opened.

One classmate works in a dialysis center, the others are all in LTC (pay scale seems to be between $13 - $17 an hour). I'm not working in healthcare, due to personal choices that happened during and after school (nothing negative).

Another classmate has a state job, but she is not in Virginia.

Hope some of that helps.

I graduated from MCI NN April 09. Rite now I'm studying for these boards. Didn't pass the first time but, I think I took it too soon.. I was soooo nervous. I think the LPN course is a great course. The job market is a little tough rite now. Any help for studying for boards?

I was so nervous for my first scheduled test date, I pushed it back a month. All I did was do questions for about 2 hours a day out of the yellow Saunder's NCLEX study book. I didn't want to overstudy and just worked on it until I lost concentration then stopped.

The others that failed the first time from my class, passed the second time because they weren't so worked up about it. It is stressful, and it can have an effect. But this time, you will go in knowing more of what to expect which is always good.

Any of the Saunder's should work, least i think mine was yellow (have no idea where it is now). Everyone I talked to used that publisher and had good results.

I did the mci LPN program graduated in 06, i moved away and had a job before i left. I moved back to go to the RN program. You can do the LPN and always go back for the RN if your still interested. I have a job its not in a hospital though. Most LPN jobs are outside the hospital. Just focus and know where you r trying to go and dont let others sabotage you. you will do great.good luck
