Marymount Accelerated BSN Program Fall 09

does anyone know how long is the program? How many months is the accelerated program.?

The Accelerated 2nd degree BSN at Marymount is four semesters, including one summer semester. So that's about 16 months. You can start in September or January. Admission is competitive.

i have been accepte already..just double checking before i make my decision...thank you...is it a fairly good program?

I was accepted last week at Marymount too. This week I was also accepted at Georgetown. I'm waiting to hear about a scholarship program offered for Georgetown by Washington Hospital Center(WHC): if you get the WHC scholarship, they pay 80% of the tuition for Georgetown, and you agree to work for them for 3 years after graduation.

If I get the scholarship, for sure I'll go to Georgetown. If not, I'll have to see about other scholarship sources, and maybe commit to Marymount instead.

I hear that Marymount has a good program, but like all private schools, some people have complained about the cost and the quality of instructors. Many schools send their nursing students to the same hospitals for clinical rotations, so in that respect they're identical. Because Georgetown/WHC scholarship students are going to work for WHC after graduation, they do most of their clinical rotations at WHC. Among the private schools, I hear Catholic has stringent pre-reqs, is costly and overrated. Among the public schools I hear Maryland is very good, and George Mason is just so-so (George Mason crams their accelerated program into just one year... which means you don't get as much clinical preparation).

Currently, I'm a weekly volunteer at WHC. The nursing supervisor for my unit is a BSN graduate of Marymount.

i understand what you mean about the costs...well ive decided for marymount.. i am from new york and want a change..so i would be going there in a month or so to look for an apartment and i know they are pretty expensive..but i think it will pay of in the end...

Yes im in the program now, clinicals are good, there are quite a few different instructors with their own technique so I can't say all clinicals are created equal, but no matter which instructor you get its a great learning experience!

I am thinking deeply about applying to Marymount for Spring 2010 but I have no idea how I am going to pay!! I saw on the website that you have to pay semester's tuition in full before starting. How much could I actually get from financial aid and other nursing scholarships? I'm so upset that I might not be able to go to Marymount due to financial problems..

First, you need to get your application submitted right away: the deadline for your application to be considered in the second round of admissions for Spring 2010 is October 23, 2009. You also need to fill out a FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid). Instructions for both are available on the web.

If you have financial need (most of us do), you can borrow the entire amount of the cost of your education, and pay those low-interest student loans off over 10 years starting after you graduate, or you may be able to get some of the cost paid for by partial scholarships, which the Financial Aid office will help you look for after you're admitted. Also, some hospitals will pay part of your cost if they want you to come work for them after you graduate from nursing school.

First things first: worry about getting into nursing school. Then work with the Financial Aid office to figure how/when to pay for it.

I've been accepted to Marymount (first round) for Spring 2010, and I'm mailing them my deposit check tomorrow: $100 to hold my place till I work out the rest of the financial details.

if you don't get accepted by Marymount for Spring 2010, there are a large number of programs that start in Fall 2010.
