George Mason Accelerated BSN 2009

On a related note, I got into the 2nd degree program for this fall, but not the regular one, and a friend of mine didn't get into any of them. She said when she spoke to someone at Mason, they told her they didn't even consider "transfer" students for the regular 2-year program. That means until you are taking classes at Mason, you won't even be considered for acceptance into anything but the 2nd degree program. While I didn't decide to go to Mason, this was just one of many interactions with the administration at Mason that has proved very frustrating to me. They did not tell me this in the info session I went to, and while it did not cost any extra to apply to both, I still think that is an important piece of information to know considering how time-consuming and occasionally confusing the application process can be, especially if you are applying to more than one program. While I know these individuals were only a part of Mason's admin, it makes me question other aspects of the program when one part of the school system is so dysfunctional. Good luck to all though - I'm sure no matter where you go, you will find yourself in a rewarding career.

This must be a new policy because I was a transfer student and never took a course at Mason before being selected to the nursing program. Mason only accepts a given number of transfer students to the nursing program a year. The main criteria is your overall transfer GPA. Mine was 3.80, which wasn't a problem. The program can definitely be disorganized at times, but the instructors provide a solid foundation to begin your nursing career.

I don't think it's a new policy...I think someone got confused. I too was a transfer student and got into the traditional program. Students who declared nursing as their major from the first day they took classes at Mason get the first spots and then whatever spots are left over go to everyone else.

Yeah, I'm not sure - that is just what my friend told me the admissions people told her. Guess the number of transfers that get in varies year to year depending on the students applying. I had a 4.0 which surprised me about not getting into the traditional program in addition to the 2nd degree, but as mentioned, maybe this year they weren't considering transfers due to the numbers already enrolled at Mason. But touche - just something for future applicants to consider.

if you talked to the admissions secretary, apparently she's been giving a lot of incorrect, unsolicited information. She's not the best source of information.

Hello Everyone..
I am interested in starting the accelarated BSN for nurses spring 2010. I am completing my second degree at NVCC, ( i am a new RN with nursing degree and finishing up the general studies one).. so my question is when should I call to speak with someone at GM about registration and things like that?.

in preparation to get into the accelerated program, i talked to a counselor last summer for acceptance this fall. you're probably in better shape than i was because my 1st degree was not in nursing. i would advise talking to someone soon to make sure you have all the prereqs. they even have the NVCC equivalents of the prereqs. Good luck!

Hi All! I'm planning on apply next fall, and had a question about the pre-reqs. I can't get to an information session, with my class schedule. I'm starting them this fall and the way I have to take them I won't be done until the summer. But in the brochure it says they have to be completed by spring in time for fall. How strict are they on this policy? Has anyone been allowed to finish a pre-req over the summer?
