UVA Nusing - Please PLEASE please RESPOND

by al_e135

I am trying to transfer to a school in virginia because my dad will be moving there (he is in the army) and I need to know what kind of chance I have of getting into UVA. I have already been to the website but they don't say anything about their past GPA averages or how they go through applications. If anyone knows anything please answer!!

I am also looking at transfering to James Madison University - I know I have to actually go to JMU before applying to the nursing school but does anyone know how hard it is to get into their program (as far as GPA and other important aspects of the application)?

Also, what other state schools have nursing programs in virginia?

Please answer this if you can - I am so stressed about nuring schools and am trying to have a realistic expectation when it comes to getting accepted to programs.

I have no clue about getting into those schools, but the programs in Virginia are listed on the Virginia BON website:

The following programs in Virginia have BSN programs:

Eastern Mennonite (Harrisonburg, private)
George Mason (Fairfax, public)
Hampton (Hampton and Virginia Beach, private)
James Madison (Harrisonburg, public)
Jefferson College of Health Sciences (Roanoke, private)
Liberty (Lynchburg, private)
Lynchburg College (Lynchburg, private)
Marymount (Arlington, private)
Norfolk State (Norfolk, public)
Old Dominion (Norfolk, public)
Radford (Radford, public)
Shenandoah (Winchester, private)
UVA at Wise (Wise, public)
Univ of Virginia (Charlottesville, public)
Virginia Commonwealth (Richmond, public)

In addition, two former diploma programs are in the midst of converting to BSN programs. Both intend to enroll their first BSN students in 2010. These two are Sentata College of Health (Virginia Beach) and Bon Secours College of Nursing (Richmond). Both are private schools.

Tranferring into the BSN program at UVa is competitive. Last year we had 100+ applications for 15 or so spaces. The number of spaces varies from year to year -- depending on the number of students we enrolled as First Years decide to transfer out of the school of nursing. Last year the mean GPA for accepted transfers was about a 3.80. Again, this is the mean. There were students with GPAs below that who were accepted and those with higher GPAs who were not accepted. The Admissions Office considers many factors (essays, recommendations, life experiences, etc).
