Worried about job outlook

I am currently a pre-nursing student at UVU. Pending a good chemisty grade and TEAS test score, I'm hoping to be accepted into their program this Fall. I'm so glad I found this site but one of the threads recently posted has me worried. It mentioned that there is little demand for nurses in the Provo area (where I live) because of the crappy economy (though I also suspect from the outpouring of new grads each year from UVU and BYU as well) Is this the case throughout northern utah or just a Utah County thing? I've still have 2 years before I have to worry about job placement, but I do worry because my husband and I are really banking on me being able to find employment right away (at a decent pay.) What can one reasonably expect to make in Utah as a new nurse?

$22/hr. You will be OK, but be open to moving if you need to.

Well that's no good. I hope that the list isn't too long for those who are waiting. Hopefully things will improve soon

I doubt they will in Utah. People (like yourself I assume) tend to not want to leave Utah because of family, etc. There also a lot of people like myself who thought Utah would be a good place to live and came here. So employers can pay low (what are you going to do? move?) and home seller can sell high (again... what are you going to do? move?) This seems to be more common in Utah than elsewhere.

Moving is definately an option as I'm originally from the midwest, but it would be preferable to stay here in Utah for at least a little while and gain experience. I guess I'm a 'tweener in that sense since my husband and I wouldn't mind staying in Utah but are open to other areas as well. Plus if I ever do become a CRNA I don't think there's any way I would stay in Utah afterwards, but that's a long ways out for me

I am going for CRNA as well. I would be willing to work out of state. You may get better experience at a trauma 1 outside of Utah plus better pay. CRNA jobs are scarce in Utah. I work with about 5 or 6 of them, but some hospitals like IMC don't use them.
