UTA Spring 2013

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Hello everyone! Just wanted to start this thread for anyone planning on attending UTA's nursing program in the Spring of 2013.....

I am working on the last of my pre-reqs right now at TCC, but I plan on attending UTA this fall to take Intro to Nursing, Patho, and Pharm... Anyone in the same boat???

kajnkween....You're not the only one who has been feeling very disappointed! I'm in the same boat as you. This was the only program I applied to primarily due to location, but also because I had heard it was one of the best. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone, a lot of us are feeling the same way!

Thanks MelTx2012 ~ I wouldn't wish this feeling on anyone, so therefore hate to say it ~ but it helps to know that I'm not alone. I'm an "older student" as I think many of us are, so I am definitely feeling a time pressure as well - not a great feeling :wideyed: but hanging in there all the same!!

I turned in my AP acceptance form too! Yay! Im antsy to learn more, especially to learn our schedule...I'm getting married June 1st, and I need to find out when (or if) we can take our honeymoon!

Man oh Man..all your posts have me highly concerned!! I applied for the AP-Online program for Fall 2013. Overall gpa is 3.75 and i currently have 1 consideration. After reading all these posts i will def be considering applying to TWU as well.. im limited to which programs i can apply to because i work.. guess ill just keep thinking positive thoughts and take what fate throws my way!

Good Luck to all those who got wait listed!

Just a note of encouragement for those on the Waitlist AND those that received 'Not Accepted' emails. I'm in AP-Cohort 7, and there were quite a few addeed in the weeks following emails, right up until the week before we started. The Dean called each person added, so keep checking email, but also keep the phone ringer up.

What we found was that waitlisted persons are usually partnered, and they are waiting for seats to open at that site. While some of those added were originally waitlisted, the majority were non-partnered that originally received denial emails. Partnered is an advantage, in that they are the first accepted. The drawback to being partnered, is that you are limited to that site. The non-partnered people received calls before those waitlisted, and were given a choice between sites with open seats. Take heart, whatever situation applies to you, there is a good chance you will get a call.

To those already accepted, start NOW!! Get organized, get your books as soon as possible, and start reading. Current students can guide you on what to start reading first. Spend time with friends/family now, because once you start, your life is all about studying and clinicals. If you get to spend time with friends/family after you start, you just spend your time thinking you need to study. It's doable, but start ahead of the game. Read now.

Thank you for that encouraging passage! Helps with the motivation!

Did you drop it off or fax it?

I dropped it off. I live on campus, so I figured it'd be safest to just drop it off

My advisor told me that being partnered was not important!!!! Im am starting to think that all these advisors should get out of education and into politics, because they can surly tell some lies!!! I could have gotten a job at a partnered hospital before I applied if that was the case! So much for busting my you know what just to have someone that is a B student take a spot which I was told was based on GPA and considerations! being partnered was not a considerations!!!! Come on wait list!!!!

You are rude. Even if your advisor didn't tell you being partnered was important, it is very clear on the info sheet with pre reqs and considerations that partnered applicants would get priority. I guess this 'B student' did her research and you didn't, so no crying about losing 'your spot'. Sincerely, Accepted with 3.4.

@txhopeful12 Not rude! If you specifically ask an advisor a question and they give you misleading information, that is not fair to ALL applicants. I did ask, she said "working in a hospital is not a requirement and that NO considerations will be given to anyone that works in a hospital." It is solely based off science GPA, overall GPA and considerations. Its appalling to know that their are a ton of us that have sacrificed everything to get beat out of a spot by someone who has not done as well after being told working in a hospital is not a plus. BTW I am not the only one that was told this! Kudos to those that were able to find out the truth! Apparently if you spend more time researching how to get in you are better off than someone who earned a 4.0! This info came from multiple advisors!!!

I completely understand your concern - honestly, I haven't figured out yet what they look for - if you look at the spread sheet that another student is maintaining - it is all over the place - some with 4.0's and 1 consideration did not get accepted; some without partnerships got accepted while others who do have partnerships did not ~ I really don't see any consistency or patterns, although I'm sure that those who made the decisions would say that there are. It makes it difficult to know exactly what to focus on to try to ensure acceptance. What I am focusing on is applications for other schools now - rather than one program, one school - I am still hopeful but don't feel that I should limit my options ~ I have to feel like I have an honest chance - so I'll have to spread out a little.

It is unfortunate that misleading information was given but in two different locations directly from UTA’s website it states that priority is given to employees that are partnered. It is not a “consideration”. Who knows what UTA is thinking but a good rule of thumb is to stay calm and be hopeful. No need to be at each other’s throat and be degrading. Once again, for those waitlisted let’s be hopeful and for those accepted into the program, CONGRATS.

Acceptance to the upper division nursing program is highly competitive and based primarily on science and prerequisite GPAs. The upper division nursing curriculum is divided into four semesters to provide continuity, and integration in the learning experiences. Only 120 are admitted into the BSN on-campus program each fall and spring semester. In the online program, partner hospital clinical sites will vary each semester. Priority will be given to students employed by partners.

Applicants will be ranked and admitted based on space availability.

Admission to the program is highly competitive and primarily based on natural science and overall prerequisite GPAs. Priority will be given to applicants employed by partner hospital systems offering clinical sites during that semester of admission. Partner hospital clinical sites vary each semester. To receive priority, applicants must be employed at the time of the ranking and the first day of class. Employment at a partner hospital is not a guarantee of admission into the upper-division nursing courses.
