UTA Spring 2013

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Hello everyone! Just wanted to start this thread for anyone planning on attending UTA's nursing program in the Spring of 2013.....

I am working on the last of my pre-reqs right now at TCC, but I plan on attending UTA this fall to take Intro to Nursing, Patho, and Pharm... Anyone in the same boat???

Reading all of your posts, I am very confused as to what makes a good chance of being accepted. I am applying for the Fall 13 program. I have a 4.0 science GPA but a 3.27 overall GPA. I have 2 considerations: a previous Bachelor's degree (which I got at UTA) and 30 hours at UTA. I want to get into the AP BSN program, but from reading these posts, it seems like a long shot because I am not partnered. I don't really know anything about the on-campus program. Does anyone know what the schedules are like as far as classes? I would be commuting from Keller, so it's 45min - 1.5 hours driving depending on traffic, and I have a 5-year old to pick up from school.

Your stats are good and you have considerations so you seem like a good candidate. However, with UTA you never know. :/

Which app period are you applying for? Would you consider trying to get a job @ the hospital?

Yes, online :)

Guess I'll see you @ orientation!!!!

I am applying this winter for Fall 2013. I think I am more worried about my 3.27 overall GPA, even with my 4.0 science GPA. does anyone know how much the GPAs count and how much the considerations are worth in the ranking system?

That is a good question:) I think it's assumed that GPA's and considerations are all weighted equally when it comes to the ranking process; however, that does not seem to be the case. In my opinion, UTA gives more weight to those that have taken the most hours at their school over anything else - sometimes over being partnered when combined with a high GPA. I don't know this for sure, but based on the history the past two application periods, that is my observation. I plan to make an appointment with my advisor next week to see if I can find out more information about how they go about ranking applicants. I need to understand it, because right now....it doesn't make sense. Just to make sure, when you calculate your GPA, you are including your science courses in the overall calculation, correct? They look at science by itself, and also your overall "pre-req" GPA (not your entire GPA from a previous degree, just the nursing pre-req courses), including your science courses. I hope that makes sense and helps a little. I will keep everyone posted on anything I find out from my advisor.....hopefully he is helpful:)

Anyone on here going to the information session?

Anyone on here going to the information session?

I won't be able to, but if you do, please update us on here! I am curious what they tell everyone.

I won't be able to either, but will be interested to hear what they say. My advisor told me I could make an appt with her on walk-in Wednesdays. I had never heard of these before. Has anyone else? I think I am going to try and go in next week to see what I can find out.

That's funny right there... Making an appointment on a day reserved for walk-ins... LOL... what's the point of walk-in Wednesday if the Advisors will be preoccupied advising students who made appointments... smh...

Don

mphillips... unfortunately, the 3.27 is my pre-req GPA; my overall GPA at UTA was a 3.6, which I wish they would have used instead. But I've been on top of my sciences and have made As in AP I & II and am on my way to an easy A in Chem and everything else I have taken after graduating in May. I am hoping my considerations will give me a boost, but I wish I knew how much they count for.

Please keep us updated on what your advisor says!

dlwoodjr...I agree about the appt on walk-in Wednesday, but at this point I'll take whatever I can get. I had tried to make an appt over a year ago to sit down with my advisor to make sure I had all of the pre-reqs accounted for and was told I could not meet in-person with my advisor because I was an on-line student. Who knows???

At this point, I just want to know what I need to do in order to get in as I feel like my life has been on hold for so long now and it's just going to be on hold even longer now.........

From the meeting:Total applicants 448 (on campus) and 541 (online)Qualified approximately 400 in each program. Qualified applicants are considered as minimum GPA of 2.5, prerequisites done unless taken the remaining needed this fall. Accepted 120 for each program of which 10 from each program are held for current nursing students that had to drop out due to medical issues or any other extenuating circumstances. If the 120 spots aren't filled after the Nov 5th deadline then they will start calling off the waitlist. There will be two waves of waitlist calling. The first should be around the end of November and the second round will be around the 1st to 2nd week of December. They are wanting all the spots filled three weeks before classes start. For the AP program...if a partnered employee that was accepted decides to decline then their spot will be filled first with another partnered employee of that hospital. If they run out of employees to choose from that hospital then they will start with the most qualified applicant to fill that spot (at that point it doesn't matter if your partnered or not). Baylor and THR had the most employees apply for the AP program. Next it was JPS/Cooks Children. HCA Methodist had the least to the point that there wasn't enough partnered applicants to fill the spots so they had to fill the rest of theirs will the top applicants (partnered from another hospital or not).I hoped this helped. :-)
