UTA Spring 2013

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Hello everyone! Just wanted to start this thread for anyone planning on attending UTA's nursing program in the Spring of 2013.....

I am working on the last of my pre-reqs right now at TCC, but I plan on attending UTA this fall to take Intro to Nursing, Patho, and Pharm... Anyone in the same boat???

No, I am not partnered, although I would love to be with Methodist Mansfield. I may have to look at getting a part time position there if it would help! Yes, I have to admit this waiting is harder than it was years ago when I got my first degree - I guess that's part of getting older.

Wow, I am so glad I found this board! I was so disappointed last night when I got my "wait list" notification. It was all I could do to not just start crying, but it helps knowing I am not the only one. I keep trying to remind myself that God has a plan for me and he knows what he is doing, but it reallyo is hard to keep the faith.

lharvick - I can't seem to figure out the Google +. I just received an email saying that you had messaged me, but when I signed on to Google + there was nothing.

If you want you can e-mail me and we can talk about our class that way. Don't worry about Google+ because only one of ladies of the class joined but she hasn't responded either.

Recv'd my no letter finally. Disappointed but not discouraged. I may try other programs which is time consuming and more expensive. I'm determined to be a nurse. It's weird that there's nursing shortages but UTA is denying and waitlisting applicants. I don't understand. Well good luck and congrats to all!!!!

tram444, I'm in the same boat. I live in Austin and I'm thinking the 3 hour commute is going to be too much. I'm strongly considering applying for the Fall 2013 for the San Antonio group. It's hard to turn down an acceptance offer, but I think a shorter commute will be much easier on me and my family. Look forward to hearing what you decide!

Cheers!

Curious if anyone knows what the clinical schedules are like? I don't live near the DFW area so I will more than likely have a 3-4hr commute. I was accepted into the BSN-AP today and was hoping the San Antonio hospital would be on the list as it's only an hour or so away from me. Does anyone know how many days a week clinicals are or if they have weekend only rotations? I am supposed to rank the hospitals in order of preference, any insight into how I should rank the DFW hospitals? I have a 4.0/4.0 and 96% HESI took all my classes at UTA and I am not partnered. Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone who is still waiting for a response.

Hi tram444: I have some friends in the program right now and their clinical schedules are usually Fri/Sat, Sat/Sun, or Mon/Tues from 7am-4 or 5pm. They are always on two consecutive days. There are a couple of breaks in the clinical schedule between semesters. Hope this helps!

I am sorry! I'm glad you still continuing to try, it will be worth it at the end. I still haven't receive any e-mail.

Sorry DON'T GIVE UP..IT WILL HAPPEN!!!

I know what you're saying! We are actually just finishing up a move to New Braunfels and San Antonio is even closer! However, having to wait another (basically) year to get started...but the commute and money spent for accommodations/travel are daunting. Maybe if we found a group in the Austin area that could all commute together and share the expense. I just don't know what to do. It's so hard to consider turning it down. Are you certain San Antonio will be on the list for the fall? Are they only doing Fall startups? Thanks so much for your response. :)

Thanks very good info! I read somewhere about having to go the hospital for exams. Do you know about that? TIA

Hi, I have been reading all of the postings for the last couple days and thought I should join so that I can inquire more info since UTA doesn't seem to explain much. I am waitlisted for the spring 2013 online program. I am really disappointed but trying to have some hopes that I will be call off the waitlist. I am partnered with Baylor. I am not quite sure of my exact GPA because I don't know which classes that were transferred from my previous degree UTA actually used to contribute to my GPA calculation. I tried to clear this up with my advisor but she keeps on telling me that she is not allow to disclose GPA info over email. I don't think she understands what I trying to ask her. Anyways, from my estimate they are 3.5 science and 3.48 for overall. I hope this is good enough to get call off the waiting list. I am so stressed out and a nervous wreck because I have to continue to wait further.

Hi luvwesties! When you decided to apply the AP BSN program, did your advisor send you a Transcript Evaluation? This is when they send you the list of pre-req classes needed, along with those that you may have already fulfilled by having a previous degree. This is how I was able to determine which courses I still had outstanding and need to take to fulfill all of the requirements. This would've been one of the first things you received from your advisor. From that, you should be able to utilize your transcripts on MyMav to figure out how many credit hours your classes were worth, add in any additional ones, and calculate your GPA. I just did this, as I was not quite sure of my GPA either - and I wish the advisors would tell us so we can compare to what we have calculated. Being partnered is supposed to be the biggest advantage, however, I'm not so sure that's true. It seems like those who have the majority of their pre-req hours at UTA are accepted over others, partnered or not. (Just my observation). I would try to meet with your advisor face to face and prepare all of the questions you want answered - I think a face to face meeting would be more productive...it is difficult to only communicate via email.

I hope this information helps - this is my 2nd time through this process; waitlisted both times, so I've become an expert:sarcastic: - unfortunately!

@Tram444 ~ Yes - the first semester, they went to the hospital for exams (at least at Parkland not sure if it varies based on hospital site?), then the 2nd semester, they had to go to the UTA campus to take the exams, then back to the hospital for the last semester. They seem to always be on Thursdays around 2 or 5p. Not sure if they make any special accommodations for those that come from out of town?
