    Hello everyone,

After reading all 11 pages of this thread I am a bit saddened at the fact that maybe UTA won't be for me. I will still apply in Jan 2012, but I am also now considering the PA program and TWU. I would like to do the TWU weekend program since I have a BS degree, I thought that would help at UTA and the fact that I'm taking at least 30 pre reqs. I wish I would have known about UTA's program prior to it getting really popular.
As for the PA program, from what I see you will have to have 2 years of health care experience.

I will be taking A&P2 and Psyc 3310 starting on the 20th. I am looking forward to this course being over already.

Don't be discouraged as each situation/applicant is different. Some of us have been through this process more than once and we're still learning. I applaud you for applying to other programs. I wish that I would have done that the last time around. Good luck and much success towards your endeavors!

I am also applying for the PA program at UTSW. If I don't get into PA school, I'm also planning to apply for the weekend nursing program at TWU. I opted to not take Patho and Pharm right now at UTA. I'm really banking on PA school or TWU at this point. I definitely feel like I have a better chance with those programs vs. UTA's AP program just based on how they calculate GPAs. Plus, at least PA school will consider my 2 years of hands-on patient care experience as a nerve conduction technologist, as well as a personal essay and letters of recommendation. Good luck to you!

For those of you considering PA school, you might want to look into UNT's program in Fort Worth. http://www.hsc.unt.edu/education/PASP/. It doesn't look like they require 2 years of experience.

    @ Zweiells

UTSW doesn't require 2 years experience, but if you don't have hands-on healtchare experience through work you should at least have plenty of shadowing or volunteering hours. Your chances of getting at UNT HSC are a lot better though, since they accept double the amount of students (75 vs. only 36 at UTSW) and UTSW is ranked in the top 10 of the 140 PA schools in the nation. Apparently UNT also reserves up to 90% of their spots for Texas residents. I want to apply to that one as well but I have to take an upper level biology like Cell Physiology or Biochemistry. Cell Physiology is only offered in MWF from 10-10:50 at UTA, and that's a little difficult when you have a full-time 8 to 5 job that you want to keep! Plus, I REALLY want to get into UTSW!

I can feel the "passion" in your responses! I'm getting quite intrigued by all of this. Question: Is there a minimum GRE score? I think at one time UTSW program was once on the baccalaureate level. If I'm not mistaken, UTMB and Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) have PA programs as well. May have to look into those...

@Mochachild, thanks so much for the encouragement. I won't give up but I know I was a bit down about it. I have a friend that just got accepted to a technical school that offers nursing and the price of that program is 50k and it's just an ADN. That's worse than TCU's nursing program which is for a BSN.

@Zweliells and @adrialeigh, thanks for the PA information. This was never really an option for me, as my goal is to really get my BSN and then go ahead and get my MSN and become a NP. I have Organic chemistry and an upper level biology course. I just don't have the experience health care experience so I will look into UNT-Fort Worth.

@ MsMila: Encouragement is welcomed on this thread! You will do well wherever you decide to attend. Keep the faith and press on! I am taken aback by your friend accepting a position in an ADN program that costs $50K!! They won't remotely make that much coming out of nursing school! Wow. What we'll do for a spot. I'll keep your friend in my prayers.

Houston just opened a new nursing school and it costs about 50K to 70K for a BSN, which is RIDICULOUS considering that the school is private (for-profit), and the credits probably WILL NOT transfer to another school if you wanted to pursue a higher degree later.

Please share any information on PA school ladies. I had never considered it, but now I am really looking into it. I talked to my husband about it and he asked me if there was a demand for it. The only thing I can do at this point is pray for the best. I really want to get into the healtcare field and out of the field I am in. Right now my job will be laying off for the remainder of the year. That means I work a week and then I'm off a week. I can't afford to live like that. I want something stable and I want to be in a position to help people. With nursing I want to open up a clinic after becoming a NP, I can see me now.......

If it's who I think it is, I'll be at their info session this weekend.

@Mocachild.....a student loan TREE would have to fall on my house for me to have enough money to attend that school!! I hope to become a NP, so kind of didn't think their program was right for me, but let me know all the details
