UTA Spring 2012

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

Can you please tell me how you are studying for the patho fe? Does it help to go over the old tests that are online and old Homework?

Thanks.

Hi notola, I literally just finished the exam. I would focus on the worksheet she provided. I haven't really ever watched any podcasts, but decided to watch the final review and it REALLY helped me to understand the material and be able to link it if needed. I would also suggest reading over the prior tests and whatever you missed, going back to the RRD and re-reading. It certainly wasn't harder than the pharm final I can tell you that! Good luck!

Pharm final grades are changing mine went up like 8 pts

I am so happy that you all spoke out and got your grades changed.

Personally, I thought the Path final was harder than the Pharm final. I just finished it. I'm cool though. I can make a 40 and still keep my B. I'm just so excited to be FINISHED with both classes!!

Okay, so its 12/2 and all letters were to be postmarked by 11/30 if you were accepting your spot in the AP-BSN or staying on the wait list...so if anyone gets the call - LET US KNOW.... I am on pins and needles!

Has anyone taken microbiology at UTA and how was the final? Was it a cumulative or was it a little of new and old?

Okay...are you kidding me?!?! Man...that is frustrating!! I am not sure if anyone noticed this, but questions that were thrown out from previous tests were on the final exam.

And I am VERY unimpressed with the communication for the Pharm course. I will be mentioning that in my survey thing.

Do you know if the instructor gave us credit or threw the questions out on the Final that the academic coach told us to disregard?

ok, i heard back from my advisor re: employment at partner hospitals and being a partnered applicant. this is a cut/paste of the email below.

for the spring application, you would need to be partnered by the first of october to be considered partnered. here is the list for the spring term:

spring 2012 ap bsn partner hospitals:

thr dallas (presbyterian)

thr arlington memorial

tbd (thr)

tbd (thr)

baylor medical center

parkland & dallas children's

john peter smith (jps) & cook children's

methodist mansfield

hca plano

st. elizabeth (beaumont)

no luck on the job front for me so far. despite having "impressive credentials" (hahahaha), i am still not able to even get an interview. i have a degree and an excellent work history and it's not like i am applying for skilled positions--primarily clerical stuff, which i can definitely do. oh well...just gonna keep putting in apps.

hi, libra and every future nurses! what a great site we have here! i've been an unregistered lurker for sometimes and came across this great post. the more i read, the more it worries me of not getting accepted into the program (my science gpa is 4.0 but my overall gpa is only 3.5). many of you mentioned about being employee of uta partnered hospitals likely will improve the chance of getting accepted. i dont have any license, degree, or any health related experience so i dont think i will get any job at any of these hospitals. can someone give me an advise to how i can step my foot in working for hospital? i don't care what type of job i get.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Hi! Your grades seem fine to me and you have a perfect Science GPA, so that is very helpful. I still have not been able to get anything at any of the hospitals, but I would say to just keep applying for every entry level job. Also, don't put all your eggs in one basket. Don't just apply to the AP program, consider others as well. I applied to both the AP and the on-campus traditional program at UTA. This is my 2nd time applying.

I have been in the middle of redoing my sciences because they are old and UTA is the only school that was willing to accept them despite their age. Now that my sciences are current again (though I didn't redo Chem), I have all options open to me. I would much rather get the BSN taken care of, but at this point, I just want to become an RN. I can worry about the BSN later, if necessary. I will be applying EVERYWHERE this next time around. The only bummer is that if I am not called for a waitlist spot for the Trad program, I will have to wait 9 more months for the fall semester to start, assuming some school finally took pity and accepted me .

Libra,

Thank you for your advise. I definitely will apply to the traditional program as well. I will be retaking history and literature classes that I had more than 10yrs ago (made Cs lol). So if I can replace them with As, my overal GPA will be 3.75, hope I'm not far behind.

I also need to take the HESI A2 test for the first time this coming Jan, hopefully I will pass. English is my second language so I'm a little worried. Thanks again Libra and g'luck on your next term!

Do you have to make a C on the Pharm final to pass the class, even though I have a C average on tests 1-5; or as long as I have an overall grade of C in the class I will pass the class?

I think your test avg including the final must be a C to pass. Meaning yes you can fail the final and pass the tests and still pass...
