I'm taking this class now :/

I'll be taking this class in January 2015. How did you do with this class in November? Did they revise the class to improve it or is it as bad as all the other reviews state? I'll be taking this class with Hist 1311 which is also supposed to be a very time consuming and unorganized class.

P.S. Do we need to buy the "nursing research: methods for critical appraisal"or the "APA publication manuall." They are listed as recommended not required materials. Just wondering if anyone purchased them, and actually found them useful.

Thanks for the advice!

I just took this class in November. It was nearly as horrible as I had anticipated but it was definitely not enjoyable. The group work is horrible. I took the reins and fixed all the assignments to make sure I got my A. If we had turned in the work without fixing it, there is no way we would have passed. Get everyone's cell numbers in the first week so you can do group texts, that is the easiest way to get in touch with everyone across time zones and different shifts. Expect to have a couple of slackers in the group. Also expect that you will probably be group leader the entire time. It seems they had revised the course. There were some individual assignments in the first couple of weeks that were very easy. The quizzes are worth a big chunk of the grade, but are pretty straightforward (based right out of the readings). The group work is worth a big chunk of the grade. Do the reading, it's important and you won't understand a thing if you don't read the material. I only rented the required books, not the recommended books. Bottom line, it is very time consuming and often frustrating. Hopefully you will get a good group to reduce the frustration. I had an okay group, but it seemed like only two of us really put in some serious work. My academic coach was also fantastic and responsive. I had many questions and she got back to me right away. This is a time consuming course.

I thought I read somewhere here that you should take stats before taking research. I still need both. Any feedback on this idea? I'm becoming really nervous about taking research, and I am horrible at any class that involves numbers (my brain just freezes up in math). I am saving both for the summer when work slows down. Thanks!

Stats is a prerequisite for research.

I took research on Nov 2014, course has changed and thought it wasn't too bad if you have a decent group. My best advise is to stay on top of due dates and double check every assignment. If you want A, you need to follow rubric!! quizzes weren't too horrible, I studied the reading worksheet only.

Whoops, that should say it was NOT nearly as horrible as I had anticipated.

I am signed up to take Research 4325 starting Monday. Just looked at syllabus and everything on blackboard and I see nothing about group work or group assignments....I wonder if they changed it?

Do you see anything about a journal critique or group journal club?

If they changed it, you are so lucky! Online group work is not a fun time.

Do you see anything about a journal critique or group journal club?

Kind of, but nothing about groups in the instructions:

Submit research article critique pt 1

Submit research article critique pt 2

quiz 1 & 2

EBP posting : finding the evidence

submit ebp project on DB

DB postings

Nothing about journal club, group work or anything in the loaded assignments or rubrics

Looks like they changed it, you lucky thing!
