UTA online RN to BSN

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Hi everyone! I'm starting UTA at the end of the month and was wondering what the work load is like. I work full time and am debating whether or not to add a second course.

Im already enrolled in professional nursing (6 units) and am on the fence about adding technical writing (3 units).

From current or former students of this program: what was your experience and what would you do?

Thanks in advance!

Valerie

I'm also starting both of those courses June 30th. I've always loved being a student, but this will be my first time being a mom as well as a student and that makes me nervous...

I am currently in the program with two classes left after I finish the one I'm in (college algebra). I would say the hardest classes I have taken so far have been:

Holistic health assessment - this one required quite a bit of work and it was time consuming

Vulnerable populations - the paper I had to write took a ton more hours then I had anticipated because in gathering the data from local, state and government sources I had to go to many different sites. Then I had to format the data and incorporate it into my paper and write it. Needless to say I had a ton of sources to site.

My next and last class before capstone is nursing research, which I have heard is a pain because it's group work which means that your grade is dependent on the others in your group. I've also heard this is one best taken alone.

I am in college algebra now, which is a total nightmare. There are many posts on this thread about that class. I had planned to try and take this at a local college and transfer it over but because I work a lot and my employer keeps promising me more nurses so I can cut back a day of work but keeps also not delivering. I didn't get to enroll and take it locally, so I'm suffering through the online one at UTA. This class you will want to take elsewhere or alone (or both). The pace is too fast, the homework is too much and the book/my math lab isn't very good either. Plus tests are online and proctored and you pay for per test, unless you can go to the UTA campus to take them. I'm across the country so that isn't an option for me.

Overall it's a decent program, my problem is the college algebra (I already had stats) and the fact that in my opinion this class sets you up to fail from the start because of the amount of work, time it takes to do the work and the fact that working, having a family and taking this class has been my personal nightmare.

Specializes in ICU.

My opinion is that it's better to start off with only one class. You don't want to get overwhelmed especially in the beginning. Once you have the first class under your belt, you will have a better idea of what two classes concurrently is like. Still, check for reviews on the classes here so you can see which classes to always take by themselves. Research is one. History, if you have the misfortune of taking it at UTA and not your local CC, is another one.

Hello, I like the program because you can make your own schedule. Right now I'm taking one class at a time and as of now I haven't had any issues.
