UTA NURS 3425 Health Assessment to start 1-14-2013

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

This thread is for anyone taking Holistic health assessment on-line at UTA starting Jan 14th 2013. Hopefully we can get a good thread going in order to provide support for each other as we go. The more students who participate, the better it will be for everyone.

One other notation, have a healthy client. Someone with no medical problems, no medication. Then your COLDSPA can be a headache from 5 days ago, or something simple like that.

ScarletFire,

Was BIO 3309 hard? I got screwed and Im having to take it with my other classes. Two 5 week (3425&4455):Two eight week (Bio being one of them POLS the other) and a full semester of Lit on campus. I am a little intimidated right now......

Thanks for any advice!

Hi TxMonci,

not hard, but you do have to put in some time to study for tests and keep up with the interactive stuff on the Pearson website (worth 4% of your grade). There is a lot of material; however, much of it is familiar if you've been a nurse for a while. The tests are 50 questions in only 30 min and believe me, the time goes by fast. you have to know the answers immediately bec there is no time to ponder and consider all answers choices. i took it along with US gov and Holistic Care of the older adult. it is nice now to have those 3 classes out of the way, but i was pretty busy considering working full time as well.

if you are taking two-5 week classes and two 8-week classes plus Literature concurrently, I want to come shake your hand. can't imagine such a schedule. is it too late to re-think this?

thanks, middlesister.

ScarletFire,

Hey, did you say that you have completed week #2 assignments. I was wondering if we use the same past medical history and family history including 3 generations that we did in week one assignments. Do we change it? Hope I am wording my question so it makes sense. Thanks

hi rosemary,

i think (again, only guessing here) that the family hx for each week's assignment pertains to the topic at hand. for example, if we are on the skin, hair, and nails section, the family history questions pertain to skin, hair, nails. When you go to the head and neck question, the fam hx questions pertain to a history of head and neck problem and so on. so we ask family history questions of our client throughout the class for each topic just as we ask our client if he/she has any current symptoms related to that particular topic. hope this info is right. i don't want to tell you the wrong thing, but this is what i think.

I just finished week one assignments, and test. Like everyone has said, there is no guidance. I even emailed my coach and got reply of its in the example, good luck! I guess that we will have to wait and see how they grade week one assignments, to have a better grasp on how to move forward in week 2. Week one test basically just covers readings from chapter 1,2,3,4,7,8

i have the same AC as you do. i had her for Prof A/B as well. might as well not have an AC at all. the only answer she will ever give you for any question at any time is: good luck! after reading a million good lucks from her, it gets pretty sickening.

I assumed the same, but got confused why all four techniques were mentioned in the rubric. I have an email out to coach, I'll let you know if WE DO NEED to include the others. I am kinda with you, this doesn't seem as bad as I expected so I am anticipating a lot of nit picky grading. I guess we'll see!

And...what's up with the example assigment?? An elderly oral assessment?? This doen's even pertain to our assignment. I don't know if I am looking at the wrong thing or what! Annoying.

Hi,

i know what you mean about the examples. i misunderstood them at first and thought that we had to have an elderly client AND a woman of childbearing years in addition to our regular client and had moment of panic until i figured it out. i agree. the examples are worthless to us.

so glad to have this forum to meet and discuss things, though. you guys are the best. can we meet for a glass of champagne when this is all over?

I've had Miss Good Luck as a coach in the past, so I was not really expecting anything from her. The way I see it they collect $1000/class x 300 students That should give me more than a 30 min video and a few good lucks from a coach! Online education is just a sweat shop, money maker for the schools. I've become a master at creative BS.

Middlesister,

"Miss Good Luck"....LOL! :D that is funny. thanks for the laugh today. completely agree w/you re: distance learning. it is a cash cow for the school and the students pay w/ blood, sweat, and tears along with $$$.

I have had miss good luck also!!! No help at all!!!! Not sure about my current AC yet. Scarletfire, thanks for input!

Hey everybody, I have submitted my week #1 assignments where it says Submit and under that it says safe/assignment. Do I have to submit it anywhere else or does that also go to our AC for grade. Basically do I have to submit it twice or just under where it says Submit and safe/assignment.

Thanks. Hope this isn't confusing.

I submitted them where you did. It autoatically runs through safe assignment. correct, everyone??

I hope I never get Miss Good Luck! I don't know how these highly educated people can develop such rediculous assignments and asinine instructions. They're illogical and unreasonable. My coach said that they tweak this course every semester because it is so confusing.

I am wondering what I am going to do with next weeks assignment, considering my patient does not have any of those things in her family medical history.
