Hi, I have been accepted to UT Arlington's MSN administration program. All of the posts are making me quite nervous. Any new updates from anyone who has completed or is currently enrolled? I'm so nervous!

I completed the program August 2012. It just takes a lot of time writing research papers every week for 2 years. The opportunities it gave me after the program were endless.

RTX723,

I'm thinking about doing the UTA program starting in the Spring. Before I start this journey, is it truly worth it? I told my manager, who also mentors me, and they told me that having this degree wont necessarily mean I'll get into an administration position. I got the sense that she was trying to disuade me from pursuing this. What opportunities has it presented to you? Perhaps I'll have to go to another hospital.

If your end goal is to be in nursing administration then I would say to pursue it. I will believe in putting in hard work now to secure a future. To be blunt, don't mind the haters. You do it for yourself. People will always discourage you because they cannot do it themselves. A Masters degree is an undertaking.

Thanks for the reply RTX. I agree, there are a lot of haters and people who are complacent with just maintaining the status quo. I want to better myself and see how far I can go. I noticed you posted you were from southern California. I grew up in Glendale.

Hello to all, I will ne finishing the program this semester. My best advise is to get organized, have a plan. Especially for the reading and the papers. Finance and Operations management are a heavy load, brush up on excel spreadsheets formulas, the formulas will save you so much time. In each class, you have spreadsheets to create with graphs and lots of data. Work the examples they help. The papers long, but they are done in sections, as longest you don't get behind, it's do able. You cannot get behind. There is also a PowerPoint. Discussion questions and research. This past semester was brutal. If you are going to take 2 classes at a time, take them in 2nd spring semester and the summer. Fall that has finance and operations management should be taking alone because the amount of work. Last semester should only be your last 2 courses because of the work and clinicals. Hope this helps. Its do able, but time management is key!

Can Nurs5328 and 5339 be taken together, or should they be taken individually?

It all depends, personally, I took them separately. Both of the courses are intense full of assignments, readings, projects, presentations, discussion, and clinical hours.

NURS 5328 - Theory Research Application is a course that goes into serious depth about research. You will have to case studies, readings, participations, and workbook to apply research statistics. Requires time and effort for this course.

NURS 5339 - Roles & Functions of Nurse Administrator is a course where you have 90 hours of clinicals that have to be completed in less than 10 weeks. Included in your clinicals, readings, assignments, group discussions, and presentations.

Both courses are 10 weeks, but each week is packed with information and requirements. If you fall behind it is extremely hard to catch up. If you have time, time management and organization skills, then yes you can take them together. If you work full time, have a family or other obligations, then it would be difficult.

Hope this helps.

I am currenlty enrolled in N5382 Health Policy. The class started Monday, and I'm already behind. I have no idea who to contact for an interview or what policy to follow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Pamela

I have recently been accepted into UTA's MSN Administration program but am having second thoughts on going through with it after reading all of these comments! They are from a few years back so I am hoping things have improved...Is there anyone out there who can give any current insight on how the program is? I'm not afraid to put in the work but with it being described as "BRUTAL," I'm not sure if I want to put myself through it!
