UTA Fall 2013

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

I thought I would start a thread for those applying to UTA for Fall 2013; AP or on-campus. I will be applying to both and am hoping to find a job at a partnered hospital before the January 5, 2012 deadline.

I'm starting with Statistics, Technical Writing and the 1st Nursing class (Professional nursing?). I still have a history class, the 2 government classes and a literature class for my pre-reqs. I think my plan is to take 12-15 credits a semester until I'm done...while working full time, 4 days a week! Good luck to you, maybe you'll be in a couple of my classes!

If I may suggest.... Do not take govt 1 online at UTA. I am in the class now and the format is awful. Quizzes are 20 questions in 20 mins. An there are 2 a week. Just not formatted for nursing students... We tend to dissect questions and 60 seconds barely gives me time to know what is being asked for goodness sake. . Final is 140 questions in 140 mins. I have a C. Prior to this I had a 3.67.... I will have to retake it cause I still have to take the final and based on previous reads of professor reviews... It is impossible to score any higher than any of your previous qui grades :(

Unfortunately I don't actually live in Texas and the schools near me don't offer government classes. I'll just have to make due with it.

I took my prereqs at UTA online. At first, it was tough. I am a in-class student however, I had to adapt really quick. You cannot have computer errors or computer problems. You have to manage your time and be able to teach yourself the material. That was not the problem for me. Algebra and statistics were easy. I would suggest taking those at a community college. As far as pharm and patho I would not take those two together. At first I signed up for them at the same time then I emailed my professor. She did not suggest to take those with the course work load I had at the time. I took Mrs. Stephens for patho and Ms. Furr for pharm. Both, great professors that are willing to help. If you have questions let me know. I know what your going through.

I don't live in Texas, so unfortunately don't have access to the campus, nor do I have a community college near me to take classes. For the RN-BSN online program, patho and pharm aren't required, but I did take pharm in the past and had it transfer in as my upper division elective.

Hi Sarahw2

There are so many community colleges that offer Govt classes online and they are pretty cheap, you don't have to live in that state to take those classes as they are online. Have you tried Dallas County Community Colleges, or New Mexico Junior College? Great schools and very cheap tuition too. There are so many others, just do some searching on google, loads to choose from.

Good Luck

Does anyone know what positions make you partnered for the UTA program???

As far as positions within the hospital?? Because my advisor said that is up to the hospital. Do you have to be full time or part time???

I don't think positions matter..i think you just have to be employed..As for me i got hired on July 8th at a partnered hospital. I let my advisor know and she said she would make a note on my application, I really hope this gives me a chance to get in the AP online program. This will be my third time applying!

I am currently in the AP BSN - (Jr2) - I was unpartnered, but you can be in any position in the hospital - full or part time - housekeeping, care tech, etc - doesn't matter. You just have to have the employer code to put on your school application. Partnership are encouraged but not required.

Good evening everyone! I want to thank everyone who attended yesterday for asking such great questions. I will admit, I was a bit surprised anyone knew who little 'ole me was... This is the first time I've been on here in months... literally months, so if you had any questions left over from yesterday and think I can help, I've already talked with Ms. Webb, and you can send the questions to her and she'll forward them to me, or you can just send them to me at my Mavs email... it is donald(dot)wood(ampersand)mavs.... you know the rest.

Once again, thank you for letting me be part of your orientation.

I am starting in August, too. What classes are you taking? I need English 1302 before I can start Technical Writing. I plan on taking Professional Nursing A/B along with Technical Writing in October. I have quite a few prereqs that I will be doing during the program so I won't be finishing up until February 2015 or so. I am just waiting on my academic advisor to clear the academic hold on my account so I can register. I am super excited to start.

Hey I saw that you have not taken Professional Nursing. If you need the books for professional nursing for the AP-BSN online I can sell them to you. Just let me know if you're interested.

I am taking that class at the end if this month. What books are needed? The only book I seen listed was the APA book, is there another?
