Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

I was considering going through this university for my RN- BSN.... The school claims the program is only 13 months and 6,450 if all you need are your core nursing classes... If you need pre-reqs it can still take you as little as 13 months, but it's an extra 349.00 per course... This seems very reasonable... Just wondering if anyone has gone through this program or is currently doing this program?

Well after reading this thread I"m not surprised at all at my experience with UT-A. I applied in March 2011 for summer. I called every month and nothing was happening I was promised it was in the works. I had surgery in June so I decide to put off calling about it and just recovering. I called again in Aug to be told that because I attended UT-A 20 yrs ago my records were put on Hold...but I was never notified of this status.

10 days ago the admission counselor promised me she would hand deliver my information to the person that does the MAPing and she would get back to me. Well 5 days later I did recieve an email that all my transfer credits were evaluated but no MAPing. So, I waited a few more days. Day 10 I called the same Counselor again and had to go through my entire story and give her the date of our last phone call. She did find an email (so she didn't hand deliver) to the person that does the MAPing. So, I wonder if I will here at all.

I'm now curious after reading Chucksters issues with the acceptance of previous credits what going to happen to all my credits...

Update: I gave up on fighting with UT-A and even though they were my first choice, enrolled in the OU RN-BSN program. I'm still waiting for my official evaluation from OU but I've spoken to my evaluator several times and unlike her counterpart at UT-A, she seems genuinely interested in ensuring that I get as much credit as possible for prior coursework. OU took virtually all my undergrad work and waived some requirements on the basis of my graduate degree, so there is now only one non-nursing requirement that's still in question - again a huge change from UT-A. There's an excellent chance that I will have only the nursing courses to take. A bonus is that because of the tuition increase at UT-A and not having to take a lot of extraneous courses, the OU program is significantly less costly.

I hope that no one else has my negative experience with UT-A and wish all the best to those thinking of attending but I want nothing to do with the school.

I'm about ready to give up on this school too. I'm feel like I've wasted my time waiting on them. The only thing they have been speedy about is cashing the check for the application fee.

Wonder how fast I can get into . I've got tuition money from my employer that is burning a hole in my pocket.

Thanks for the update. I might look into OU .... UT-A is so inefficient; my counselor once again said she would follow up on my MAP but it's Friday again with nothing happening....

Is anyone currently at UTA taking the technical writing class? I am hoping to start at the end of September and I am wondering if people take this class alone or with another class (such as Prof Nursing A&B) or a non-nursing course. About how many hours, per week, does this class require? Any advice would be appreciated. I also don't know if I am being too optimistic hoping to start so soon since I have my initial transfer credit report but no MAP from the nursing department...

Ok. Im officially registered for the first nursing course at UT-A; which is actually a two part 10 week class. I start Nov 7....Can't wait.

I am also Starting UTA soon....I take Prof. NRsg A and Tech Writing beginning 9/26. I was wondering if we actually need the online access code for the "Concise Guide to Tech Communication" book, or if we ONLY utilize the book?

Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks!!!

Hi ICURN99,

I am currently in my last week of both those classes and Yes, u will need the mytechlab access. You will take two non-graded test on that site that count as participation credit for 100 points each. Then based those results you will we assigned weekly assisnments to do. If you score high enough on those "diagnostic test". Then you will not have to do the weekly assignments. Hope that helps.

Hey thanks so much! Any other advice you have?? Good luck with your next class!!

Can anyone tell me how UTA's online program is? Is it really doable? Is there support from the school/academic coaches? I am still waiting for the actual acceptance to the Nursing program and the course mapping in order to take classes or the 9/26 start date. Reading all these remarks about UTA is making me consider OU...I hope to start taking Tech writing & first nursing class on 9/26. Is there anyone out there who is nearing the RN to BSN program with UTA who can shed some light/advice about this program? Any comment or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, I finally received my map today and I think I am going to bite the bullet and start with Tech writing and Prof Nursing A on the 26th. My map has two classes that I don't think I need so I am trying to get that resolved. I have also seriously considered OU but frankly I would rather take an extra class or two and know about it at the start than deal with the stress of the unknown. It sounds like students at OU are partway through the program before they get a final transcript eval, and I know I can't handle that. The pre-req classes that I need don't bother me because they are in areas I enjoy studying anyway.

Do most people buy their books for these classes are rent? I would love some good suggestions for the cheapest way to go.

Thanks!
