I was considering going through this university for my RN- BSN.... The school claims the program is only 13 months and 6,450 if all you need are your core nursing classes... If you need pre-reqs it can still take you as little as 13 months, but it's an extra 349.00 per course... This seems very reasonable... Just wondering if anyone has gone through this program or is currently doing this program?

I received my transcript evaluation, and they accepted all my previous courses. But, I'm from Texas so I think that's why. So I'm starting patho and pharm on May 16 and intro May 23. I already registered and received my books today. I'm kinda wondering if I was accepted into the university and appoved to take nursing prereqs is there a chance I could still be rejected when I apply to the college of nursing? I'm really worried about my gpa not being competitive enough. So, I just want to know if anyone has been accepted to the uni and then rejected by the college of nursing.

Has anyone else had difficulty with the evaluation and advisement process at UT-A? Exchanges with my advisor are like scenes out of the movie "Ground Hog Day": Every time I think we made progress, the next e-mail mixes things up and we start again, but from a different point.

The latest incident (and there have been several like it over the past several weeks) involved the writing and literature requirements. I've taken 6 English courses, 4 of which were upper-level courses. Yet my UT-A course map showed that I need both tech writing and an English lit course. I contacted my advisor and she agreed to apply one of the courses toward the tech writing requirement but stated that she could not use any others for literature because they were all freshman-level. I pointed out that was not the case and she agreed that if I could provide a catalog description of one of the courses that substantiated that it was an advanced course, she would use it for the literature requirement. I did not have a copy of the catalog (the class is from more than 20 years ago) so I instead contacted the English department at my alma mater. In turn, the assistant chairman of the department wrote to the UT-A advisor stating that the course in question was in fact a junior/senior level course. The UT-A advisor responded and said that it was still not acceptable - as a Technical Writing equivalent.

Ground Hog Day moment #4: I now have to contact the advisor again and point out to her that she accepted another course for tech writing and that this one is for the literature requirement.

Another problem is my intro to psych course. Since it is titled "Human Behavior I", my advisor is saying it's unacceptable. Yet, she acknowledges that intro to psych is required for the other psych classes I've taken, such as Abnormal, Physiological and Developmental. She also acknowledges that UT-A has accepted my Developmental Psych class - while still insisting that I need to take Intro. I've contacted the Psych department at my alma mater on this one as well, though I'm sure that when they verify that it in fact is Intro to Psych, there will be yet another Ground Hog Day moment.

At this stage, I'm seriously questioning whether it's worth enrolling at UT-A.

OMG Chuckster, what a nightmare for you! I can't even believe they would require an intro class with upper level courses on prior transcripts; not to mention all the other courses you've taken. Are you sure you don't want a MSN at Aspen? I hate the frustration you're having to endure but I must say I greatly enjoy your sense of humor. Keep us posted. What a crap shoot!

Nominally, yes.

I haven't started yet and won't until this nonsense with my evaluation is complete. I'd planned to start with the first summer session but with all the speed bumps, will have to push things off until the next session.

ok latest from ut-a. they are insisting that i retake intro to psych. guess which catalog description is the one from the course i'm asking to be transfered in (and that they refuse to accept) and which is the ut-a course:

psyc 1315 introduction to psychology (3-0) the fundamental methods and content of scientific psychology. concentration on the understanding of basic principles.

psy 001 - psychology of human behavior i (3 s. h.)

designed to give the student some understanding of individual behavior. consideration is given to such processes as human development, motivation, learning perception and adjustment. attention will be directed toward those insights which psychology can bring to bear on the understanding of man and his relationship to his physical and social environment, with emphasis on the social science aspects .

note: psychology i is prerequisite for all the following psychology courses. it satisfies the basic studies requirement in psychology. for psychology majors, it is the first half of the requried year course and should be followed by psychology ii.

I have also had many issues with UTA. My advisor has only contacted me once in the past 2.5 weeks and that was a "yes" in respone to my message asking him "did you recieve the forward from ...". He also asked me if I was currently an RN, which was after I sent an email explaining my academic and professional history, and it stated "I am currently a Registered Nurse..." in the FIRST line!!! Ugh, i'm so frustrated!

I have everything ready to attend , but am concerned about the B average max 3.0 GPA. I plan to attend a CRNA program and don't want that to be an issue. I contacted the school I am pursuing for CRNA regarding WGU, and they said as long as it is clearly stated in their curriculum that a "pass" rating = 3.0, then they don't see why it should be a problem. I don't know if I am comfortable risking my entrie RN-BSN education on that response alone.

Glad to hear that it's not just me who's had difficulty with the UT-A process. I don't understand their reluctance to use the catalog descriptions of the courses during the evaluation process - their decicisons on equivalancy appear to be based solely on the course title. Perhaps they are just overwhelmed with applications and as a result, cannot devote the time needed for a thorough evaluation.

At this stage, I've put UT-A on the back burner and am considering other options.

Yes I agree, not sure how grades and will it be accepted elsewhere. I looked in UT-A but they wanted 5 more classes out of me, plus the nursing classes. I went with Arizona State University , they are a bit more cost wise, not as much as UofP, and there classes are 1-2 every 7 weeks all online...no out of state tuition for online programs.

ALso decided to hold off on UT-A; some better alternatives are apparently available.

A further caution on UT-A: They recently raised their tuition quite considerably.

Tuition for the nursing classes was just over $201 per credit and is now at $275. I'm not certain if tuition has also been increased for the non-nursing classes. I frankly suspect that it too has gone up and is one reason that they are insisting that I retake so many non-nursing courses (they are requiring 7 additional classes in my case).

Don't take them at UTA! Take them somewhere less expensive, like a community college -- if you're in Tarrant County, go to TCC, whose tuition is $50 a credit hr. ALL of my nursing pre-req courses transferred from TCC (except the 3 nursing courses which I did take at UTA)... I'm sure you have considered doing this already, but just thought I'd throw it out there!
