Chuckster, I am so sorry for all your troubles. Between you, me and the fence post you're right to move on. What a bunch of $H*T! I hope you can figure out a plan to get moving quickly. I recall Drexel is spendy??? Is that correct? I wish you didn't need the regional accreditation and I'd recommend going for the MSN I've applied to. There is NO extraneous bull. If Drexel costs the same as Univ of Phoenix and those other programs, I know you can get started lickety split with the private programs. Yes, they are for profit but MANY of the professors I see listed with various nursing programs as well as MANY MSN, FNP grads have UoP listed in their credentials. Anyhow, it's been a journey with OU I won't recommend to anyone. Let me know what you figure out. Indiana Univ at Wesleyan was VERY nice to deal with. Might be worth a call to them. It appears you attended school in NC??? I went to ECU and NCSU! Keep me posted...

have just received my transcript report and plan on starting at the May date. i have 117 credits that transferred, any idea how many prereqs I will have??? also, is there someplace online i can view all of the requirements???

A couple of questions back to you. I got a UT-A acceptance e-mail on Friday that stated that: "You are now under 'Department Review' from the College of Nursing for consideration into the RN to BSN program." Can you tell me how long this process takes? When will the transcript review be complete?

For those in the RN-BSN online, for the general ed courses like history, statistics, and government, how do you do exams?? Are they all done online at home? How are those courses graded? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Got my evaluation from UT-A today and am disappointed and really puzzled by it.

I expected to have to take an additional class in US History since I have only one. UT-A is requiring 2 more however, apparently because my course was too specific (it was 20th Century US History). They are also requiring 2 Poli Sci classes and are not accepting my classes in American Constitutional Law and US Business Law as even partially satisfying the requirement.

UT-A also wants 2 additional math classes - not sure what the reasoning is for me to have to take 2 classes in Elementary Math Modeling after having already completed algebra and calculus 1 & 2. They also appear to be telling me that I need 8 more credits in natural sciences, apparently not accepting my intro chem and bio courses. Curiously, they accepted microbiology, which of course has chem and bio prereqs.

Even though I have 10 courses in the social sciences (2 anthro, 4 sociology and 4 psych) for a total of 30 credits, they appear to be requiring a further 8 credits. According to the evaluation, they have not accepted any of the psych courses I've taken (Intro, Developmental, Abnormal and Physiological) and appear to requiring both Intro and Developmental. Hopefully this is a misunderstanding.

In fine arts, they are requiring an additional class, despite 35 or so credits in film, theatre, religion and the like. And finally they are requiring another class in "Computer Use Competence" apparently ignoring the programming and MIS classes I've already taken (Fortran, Microcomputers & Management, Mgt Information Sys).

Obviously, I'm going to have to speak with somebody to hopefully straighten at least some of this out. All told, UT-A wants me to take 14 more courses on top of the 8 RN-BSN nursing classes, a total of 80 credits. This may be understandable in some cases but I already have associates, bachelors and masters degrees, so this seems really excessive and unreasonable.

Can anyone who's already gone through this process give me any guidance, suggestions or pointers?

Make sure you go by the course map they email you instead of going through the transcript review via mymav. I had a similar experience but was told that the review on mymav is incomplete but should go by the courses listed on my course map that i need to take and those are more accurate. Contact your academic advisor! They should have emailed you your course map if you've been accepted by their school of nursing

All the tests/quizzes/exams are done online (at home or wherever you have access to a computer) and are authomatically graded when you submit them. At least that's how my last general ed. class was.

Thanks for the advice. The enrollment counselor suggested that I contact the advisor via e-mail, which I've already done.

My guess is that whomever did the evaluation looked only at the course titles and did not bother to look at the catalog descriptions. So for example, they're saying I need Intro to Psych because it was called Human Behavior I on my transcript. Same for my stats courses - they were called Decision Sciences or Quantitative Analysis. What I can't understand is stuff like Fine Arts. I have a number of courses in theater, performance arts and film (for example, Intro to Theater) that they either overlooked or for some odd reason don't want to take. Same for Tech Writing - I have any number of upper-level english and communcartions courses such as Critical Writing and Documentary Film Writing as well as courses in journalism, not to mention several research and writing courses in the MBA program - all requiring graduate-level writing (meaning publishable), so I'm not sure why one of these didn't fulfill the requirement.

Right now, UT-A is saying I need 7 additional classes - the actual course map wasn't quite as bad as what I first saw on MyMav when I thought it was 14 more classes. I think the number should be 3 (1 more US history, the Texas government course and one more poli sci - I'm hoping they will accept my other poli sci course in American Constitutional Law). I can handle a few more courses but not 7.

I understand. I really hope they do right by you. I took most of my pre-reqs at TCC, and I had a friend who applied for their nursing program after completing a pre-med bachelor's, and TCC made her retake ALL of the science courses - a&p 1&2 because at UNT for their pre-med, their a&p covers more than just human anatomy, Micro -I don't know why they made her retake it, (I think they may have let her keep chemistry)... so it was kinda ridiculous -- I mean, that was only for the associate RN! She could've tested out of any of those courses, if that option was available.

On a positive note, they do give extra consideration to those who already have a bachelor's or higher degree in another field... so once you get all the classes sorted out, you should have a better chance at getting into the program!

Well, after several days of exchanging e-mails. UT-A has agreed to accept exactly one more of my undergrad courses - this one for the fine arts requirement. So far, they are refusing to accept my upper-division course in Critical Writing for the tech writing requirement. And they have not responded regarding Intro to Psych. I was told to contact another evaluator to see if one of my 3 graduate statistics courses would be acceptable for the UT-A stat requirement.

So I orginally started out with 7 non-nursing courses and after a week of discussion, am down to . . . . . .6!

I really don't have any issues with taking another US history course (only have 1 and they require 2), the same for poli sci (have 1 but they want 2). I understand the whole Texas state history thing (they never formally requested statehood and are enormously proud of the the Republic of Texas and can't argue with the requirement for a Texas law/history course. That's only 3 of the six though.

What's particularly galling about tech writing - aside from the several upper-division English writing courses I've already had, is that I've written literally dozens of reasearch and opinion papers in the course of earning 3 degrees. It's also a bit insulting to have to jump through so many hoops to try and get UT-A to accept either my statistics courses or several semesters of calc as equivalent to MATH1308. Any one of the 3 statistics courses I took as part of my MBA program (at a top 40 school no less) were much more intensive than the UT-A stat course they're telling me to take. And there's no way I'm going to take Intro to Psych again. The've already accepted my Dev Psych course, for which Intro is a pre-req for Pete's sake.

My course map has me starting with Tech Writing on 5-23. I hope we can resolve these issues quickly and I can start with NURS 3645A instead.
