Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

I was considering going through this university for my RN- BSN.... The school claims the program is only 13 months and 6,450 if all you need are your core nursing classes... If you need pre-reqs it can still take you as little as 13 months, but it's an extra 349.00 per course... This seems very reasonable... Just wondering if anyone has gone through this program or is currently doing this program?

There's a lot going on over at UTA it is extremely frustrating sigh

RNTriathlete, KCdunlap, chybabe, commonsense, mxsantana and others:

Thanks for all your great postings!!! I am new to this site and to allnurses and to posting, for that matter. Been researching RN to BSN programs for a while and today received my course map for UTA. Of course, I have to take both gov classes (sounds like everyone has to unless you are from Texas), but all in all it's not too bad. (I'm in CA) So far my impression with administration is not good: unresponsive to my calls or e:mails, etc; someone in admissions even sent a reply to my e:mail re: my transfer credits which was clearly supposed to go to another student! Have considered Chamberlain School of Nursing as well and they sound much better w/ regard to accepting credits and support for classes, but cost is extraordinary! $600 per credit, so it's a minimum of $20,000 for the program, w/o the cost of books factored in. Anyway, I see that most of you are almost finished, so congratulations and again thanks for all the wonderful info you have provided. Please, if anyone reading this is about to start the program, let's post frequently so we can spread the love. :heartbeat

I have about 1.5 weeks left in my capstone class. I agree the organization of parts of UTA are atrocious. It took me 7 months to get my acceptance. I had attended 20+ years ago and for some reason I kept hitting a issue of being an inactive student. I'm glad I continued. The program is quick and fairly straight forward. I have hit some snags with different Academic Coaches but that is to be expected just about any college.....

I can't wait to be finished....

Yes, I am sure you will be glad when this is all over. What is an academic coach, BTW? Is this someone whom they assign to you, and if so when?

Its UTA's word for Teaching assistant. They are in charge of communication with the students and do the grading.

how is your nursing capstone class? what do you do in the course?

It's not bad. A lot of work though, DB posts, Journal then a journal paper, powerpoint, then a cumulative presentation paper, resume....that's most of it I'm sure I'm missing something though.

Finishing the two politics/government classes as we speak...I thought taking them together would be a nightmare but it actually worked out rather well. The classes synced up for the most part, so something that was covered (either with the TX or US spin to it) one week in one class was usually covered (with the opposite spin) shortly afterwards in the other class. That actually helped to make studying easier because the basics of government are the same in both federal and state levels.

Hi Meriwhen,

Your comments re: the 2 gov classes are helpful. I was going to take Prof Nursing A/B along with Texas gov but now I think I will take US hist II with the nursing class instead and wait to take both gov classes together as you did. I'm just about to start the program in Aug and am trying to learn as much about the program before I start as possible.

If you do that, be sure to use a calendar to keep track of all of your assignments. The deadlines for each fall on different days and times.

Hmm, not sure what you mean exactly. Are you saying you don't think it's a good idea to take 2 classes together, or just THESE TWO particular ones. Or, do you mean that I shouldn't take one nursing with one gen class because of the overlap ( 5 weeks vs. 8)?

Scarletfire, Im trying to get into the program now. I've already applied and sent in my transcript 3 times, but my to do list hasn't been updated as yet. How long did the entire admission process take? They seem to be very slow on my end with no one to talk to.
