Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Hello everyone! Hoping to connect with others that are currently in this class!

I'm taking Vulnerable and British Lit next. Has anyone taken College Algebra or Stats through UTA?

I emailed my coach two days ago with a question about my Summary; no answer. Oh well, I'm submitting it tonight. Final tomorrow and I'm done!!

I'm just finishing stats this week through UTA. I've found the class very doable. The professor has a series of online video lectures for every chapter that have been invaluable.

Thanks for your response! Math just isn't my best subject! Guess I will just have to do it and get it over with!

I will be starting this class on July 1st. I am trying to order my book, can you tell me which ones we need?

Is the DVD helpful (if I rent, the DVD is not guaranteed)? What is the Nursing Bar-Chart Quick Study Series? I can't seem to find that specific one online and I can't purchase it at the bookstore. Would the nursing diagnosis handbook have been more helpful in an ebook (cut and paste option?)

Thanks for the help! Congrats on finishing your class!

N3425 Holistic Health Assessment Across the Lifespan class did not use material from the DVD.

Text ISBN-9780781781602 is MANDATORY (I suggest a hard copy and not an ebook) and study guide (if you like using one) ISBN 97800781781619 can be helpful for study. Bar Chart ISBN 9781423203087, is a quick reference and is useful as a study guide for exams.

Check rent costs against purchase @ half.com. The class is very tedious, but very doable. Good luck!

My advice is to follow the rubric to a T. Even if you feel like you are repeating things over and over in the assignment. DO IT. Also, you will need to pay attention to the smallest details and spell every little thing out...for example, you need to add "BPM" after the pulse, or "F" after temperature--fail to do so and you will lose points.

I never used the DVD. Unless they've changed the course since I last took it, the assignments do draw from the study guide so you will need to purchase/rent/borrow it.

Thank you for the advice. I am ordering the other books. But the diagnosis handbook is expensive. Did you use that one?

Ackley, B.J. & Ladwig, G.B. (2014). Nursing diagnosis handbook: An evidence-based guide to planning care (10th ed.). St. Louis, MO: Mosby. ISBN 978-0-323-08549-6

I do not think I ever used the nursing diagnosis handbook. I recall myself renting it and never using. Save your money. And we never used the DVD. The chart comes in handy just in general, but the book will be your holy grail.

And as maryannmartin stated, FOLLOW THE RUBRIC TO A T. Make sure you detail everything. And if the organ or body part occurs bilaterally, make sure you say that!! BILATERAL will be your new favorite word. lol

Basically, you will be rewriting the textbook in great detail.... I feel bad for you Quest4Sure. But you have access to all of us who will be here to help you.

Thank you so much. You saved me $50+ on the diagnosis handbook. I ordered the chart and rented the book and workbook. I've heard this class is not too hard and has a lot of typing. I am a pretty fast typist. I am going to enjoy my week off while my books come in the mail, then I will start the 5 week process all over again...

I used the diagnosis handbook once, and to be honest it's not that much different than any other diagnosis handbook. As long as you can get your hands on some diagnosis handbook because you'll need it for one of the assignments (I can't recall which), you'll be fine. Check one out from your library or borrow one.

Its really really really time consuming. Many allnighters in this class.

I would create a thread for the class so you and others can help one another. When I took it, I met some great people on here.

I am in total agreement - save your money - you do not need that specific nursing dx book, any NANDA will surfice.

Oh I remember, we used the diagnosis handbook for a discussion board topic. In assessment, you need about two in-text citations with a references section below.

Yes, any NANDA book will work. But I'm pretty sure all the NANDA info is online as well, you just need to use the book as a reference.
