Challenging Transfer Credits

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Just curious if anyone has had to contact their academic advisor to challenge transfer credits not given credit for. I recently sent in a request to be given credit for two classes that I had taken at an accredited university. Hopefully someone has a transfer credit success story.

I did: they were waffling on giving me credit for four classes. I sent official descriptions of the courses from my former school. I guess that was all that was needed: they accepted the classes with no problem. Though they did resist on the English Composition...in the end, my academic advisor actually did a great job in getting them to accept my classes for that requirement.

That actually gives me a glimmer of hope. Great idea sending official descriptions. I am content with the classes that they did give me credit for. It seems like a large group from this board have to take Technical Writing. After hearing about what a laborious class that is, kind of happy to check that one off on the good ol' course map. Appreciate the feedback!

occrn,

I had to do something similar. I took an English Class previously called Satire. The admissions evaluator incorrectly listed it as a Religion class on my transfer summary report for reasons I don't understand. Anyway, I contacted her and she said it was correct. I contacted my advisor and he said the same thing. Finally, I sent an e:mail to the Director of Admissions and Records, and he fixed it in an instant. Still, my advisor wouldn't accept it. I had to contact my previous school, and the Chair of the Eng Dept wrote an e:mail along with the class description for me and then and only then did my advisor say it was ok. A lot of work for me when it was originally their error, but it all turned out ok in the end. Hope it works out for you.

When I initially started there, I was not given credit for Soc and Lifespn Psych. All I had to do was e-mail my advisor and it was taken care of. Apparently it had simply been an oversight.

Good luck.

ScarletFire, your advisor insisted that "Satire" must be the name of a religion course rather than an English course? Your advisor has an intereteresting take on religion.

Sometime you wonder, if the people advising us have gone to college, what the point of going to college is.

Yes, I have wondered several times throughout this process where in the world they get these people and, how do they maintain their jobs? If we, as nurses, made so many errors, we wouldn't be working. Whatever.....

I would have guessed Philosophy instead of Religion...

At least you were able to get it corrected and spared having to retake English at UTA.

Im in a huge battle right now trying to transfer english comp and stats. I took intro to stats andd they other university gave me business stats equivalent and eng comp they said was different when ITS THE EXACT SAME COURSE in almost every way.

They just want me to spend another 1.5k on these courses....ugh

Nowadays everyone say they are accredited, I guess they would not be in business if they wern't. As a general rule, sticking to public institutions, such are Public State Universities, State and Community Colleges is ones best bet to ensure transferring of credits as they often are required by the State to have comprehensive articulation agreements. Its when one gets credits from a private institution, that things get hairy...not to say private is bad, just that their articulation agreements may be few or non-existent.

I recently entered a Bachelor's degree nursing program online. I had lots of trouble transferring credits from a local technical college. I did finally get most of them accepted.

Yes - about seven times, in writing, over the course of a year - finally bringing in her supervisor. I did get the credit. The last time, she said, "you never really asked me about that specific course" ... so based on my experience, I would write it as I have ___ courses from ___ university.

Course ____ has the same content as ____.

Or in my case.. Nurs 4300 is obviously an upper division nursing course, since it has a course number 3000 or above - please either give me credit for the upper division nursing elective or explain to me why it does not count.
