I would just scan the job openings see what you find and then apply. Both types of jobs are available I think, haven't looked for a while. But it doesn't matter. Really, if sth suits you, apply for it and see. Forms are normally online, you can create your account, it's quite easy.

There are some hiring freezes, but allways some jobs available.

You will need to register with the Nursing and Midwifery council who require clinical experience as a nurse, so that will depend on how long you have been a carer as this work will not count. You will also need to get a work visa, this can only be gained by getting an employer sponsor and you will only be able to do this if you work in one of the shortage professions, you will need to be very experienced in one of these areas and the fact that you have spent time working outside of being a qualified nurse would not go in you favour.

I think finding a sponsor for the work permit is going to be problematic as the employer will have to prove that they are unable to employ a UK citizen and last time I looked at UK news it was saying unemployment has reached over 2 million the highest for many years. Unless you meet the shortage list and have current nursing experience then you are going to have problems and being on this carer course isn't going to meet current nurse experience
