Use of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel in the UK

Hello, I am an American nursing student currently doing a project on the use of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) in healthcare. The primary focus of my group's presentation is of course is the use of UAPs in the US, but I would also like to find out if UAPs are utilized in other countries such as Canada and the UK.

In the US, we have what is called the Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA). The CNA does basic bedside care such as bathing, cleaning, grooming, vital signs etc. It was basically created because nurses already have so much to do. What is the equivalent of the CNA in the UK, if there is one? What is the training required for UAPs? And most importantly, what do UK nurses think of the use of UAPs?

Here they are called Clinical support workers(CSW). What extra roles/skills they have will depend on were they work and what that area requires. They will have gained vocational qualifications relevent to their environment, SQA's.
They can be a godsend, but that depends on their attitude really...I have worked with some whom I have so much faith in and others that just frustrate and worry me!
