Malcolm's Farewell

Did anyone catch this programme last night (Wednesday) on ITV.It was excellent and should be required viewing for all those that care for and nurse dementia patients. It would also show the relatives that the changes in dementia can sometimes lead a formerly gentle loving person to become aggressive and difficult.

missed the programme but nice to hear of a programme giving a more realistic view

missed the programme but saw alot of the bad press the makers got in the papers, saying they were there when he passed away and it actually happened two weeks after filming stopped, wish i had seen it now so i could see what the heck they were going on about, it seems to me that sensitive, sensible, subjects on tv arnt recieved very well by the press, yet they will allot pages and pages to 'reality tv'- which incidently is starting to make me go potty

I'll watch for it on this side of the pond. It looks distressing - and real.

It was distressing and real.I think the worst thing was to see him going from a well fed ambulant person to one who was thin and contracted and bedridden. In TV time it shows the terrible changes that happen towards the end of life in Dementia but in a very short space of time. I hope his wife finds peace now that he has passed she deserves it.

I managed to watch it and i was blown away! I thought it also showed fantastic insight into the stress and worry that is placed on carers. Something that we don't often think about too much and we should!
