Fracture Clinic

by AMOEBA

Hi there everyone. Not been on this for a while. I dislocated my knee about 7 months ago and my mobility is alot better but my knee is still grinding and crunching. Got offered a job in the fracture clinic of all places cos it should be easier on my knee as wont be as heavy as the ward. Has anyone worked in a fracture clinic before and know what its like. I know bits and pieces but would be good to hear from anyone who has worked in one. Thanks x

I am not sure about where you will be working but our fracture clinic is horrendously busy, not heavy though but has a huge throughput of patients. The staff there apply splints / plaster casts / do cast checks and run around after the docs

Sorry to hear you knee is no better, mine is not good still either, have an appointment to see my orthopod on Monday as it is still really unstable.

Hey there. Ach that's rubbish that your knee isn't too good either. What's still wrong with it? I still go to physio once a week and my walking has improved alot and I dont have much of a limp now, but walking upstairs is a bit painful with every step cos of the crunching, and doing leg raises, etc to build up my quads is sore too, but cant not do it or my muscle wont build up! What joy! I went back to see the surgeon yesterday cos of the crunching and they said my knee cap is deviated a bit to the left so that will be making it crunch as well as the rough kneecap but they wont clean it out cos "research has shown this doesn't help"! So I've just to continue with my exercises and hope it gets better. I still have this feeling everytime I walk that something on the outside of my knee is trying to pull my kneecap out! AAAARRRGGGHHH! What type of nursing do you do and can you manage ok with your knee?
