Working at a hospital temporarily without a travel agency

Hi,

I have been wanting to live in a specific area for a short while but the nearest hospital that accepts travelers is a three hour drive away. I have been thinking about applying for a job at a hospital within the city as a regular staff nurse with the intention of not working there for more than a year. I was just wondering if anyone has done anything like this and could share some advice. Thanks.
