What is with these unmotivated recruiters?

I'm an L&D nurse with lots of experience, ready to start traveling. Ever since I started looking into it, I've had countless recruiters calling me and emailing me every day. Now that I'm ready, they have slacked off! I'm talking with recruiters from Cirrus, Trinity, and Intelistaf, and all are hard to get up with. They never answer their phones. They will call and leave me a message (usually first thing in the morning when I'm asleep, I'm a night owl for chriminy sake!), then the rest of the day I'm leaving them voice mails because they won't answer. I want an assigment ASAP, and they are all dragging their feet in finding me one. Where are all the go-getter recruiters?? And why do I have to BEG for detailed info on an assignment I'm interested in?? Hello, pay is kinda important, why don't you tell me about that first!!!

Your job, assignment, happiness all will be helped by a great recruiter. If the recruiter stinks, you can probably expect everything else to as well. PM me if you want a few names. I've never worked with the ones you mentioned.

Apparently I can't PM, or I just can't figure out how. Could you PM me instead?

Oops. You have to have like 10 or 15 posts to do PMs. I just realized you don't have that many. Send me a message when you do and I'll give you details.

Your problem right now could be timing - the market for travelers stinks! I'm working with one of the largest travel nurse companies looking for my next assignment and they have only 31 positions listed in OB for the entire country!
This time last year the listings were in the hundreds.

Someone else said it...I'll echo it. Timing is everything and right now, it's difficult to find jobs. You may need to try to go with a larger company if you really want to travel right now...lots of people are putting off their travel plans till things calm down a bit. Good luck.

Wife's recruiter we can seldom get on the phone. She is on the phone constantly looking for and taking care of others. So we email her and tell her to Call as soon as she is off the phone. She calls within 5 minutes. They are more responsive to emails since they can multi task. My .02 cents worth

I'm working with a new agency out of CA. Haven't done an assignment with them yet, but I'm already very impressed with my recruiter and her attention to me. I know part of this is money in her pocket, but she's really been working hard to find me something and always receptive to my calls - gets back to me right away if I leave a voice mail, etc. I'm hoping she finds me something so I can continue with her and see if she's as great as she seems to be. This is a bad time though - I'm beginning to get a complex about not finding something. Hopefully things will be better in January. Good luck to you.

Yeah, cosmicmama, I don't think it's the recruiters. I think there are precious few jobs.

I had desperately wanted to get out of NY for the winter and have checked out CA, FL, MA and NY and gotten inches from nowhere. I was ready to jump ship (I'm with a smaller agency and reeeeaaaly don't feel like heading to The Dark Side) but now after talking to other travel RNs I work with, it seems as if it's not just me. January is always lousy, but THIS January is apparently exceptional.

I've been an L&D nurse in high volume high-risk hospitals for nearly 6 years, and only traveled this last year. I'm thinking I have to stay put. I figure if my buddy with 10 years of L&D experience and every certification under the sun is having a hard time getting a job, then I should back off.

Now I have night terrors about whether my hospital will re-sign me.

It really does come down to the recruiter. When I first started looking at traveling, I spoke with so many recruiters. The one I went with was one that I had been talking with for over a year. She is great. She emails me, leaves voice mails and returns my calls. The company is based in NC but has postings all over.
Currently, things are slow, but we have talked daily and reviewed various options. Her goal and mine is to keep me working. When I felt I was in an unsafe situatioin, there moved me in less then 24 hours. Even offered to put me up in a hotel that night.
I need to make more money, and she hooked me up with a sister company where I could work per diem.
I have read so much about bad companies, I just had to point out that there are a few decent ones out there. Granted, it took me a year to find one.
