Hi guys,

I need to pay off some student loans and thinking about going to CA for a year or so. I'm looking for areas where I can make the most (pay/housing cost) and have options to extend (or sign with a different hospital). How is Sacramento area?

any advice is much appreciated!

If you are L&D, Cath lab, and CVOR you can achieve your goal and beyond. CVICU, PICU, and OR you can do well too. However if you are med surg, tele, ICU, PACU, general peds, dialysis, psych, or mother baby forget it.

I am CVICU/SICU fortunately.

CVICU use to do well is what I should have said. Right now that market is iffy right now.

CVICU opportunity is available in San Diego, gross weekly rate with insurance is over $1900. (yep 1900 before taxes with housing and meals included for CVICU) LOL. Housing is roughly 3k+

Consider this CVICU!

Details: Columbia, SC!

Gross Weekly Takehome:$1,984.00

Taxable Hourly: $24.00

Stipend Hourly: $ 31.11

Blended Hourly:$55.11

Shift: 12 Hour Day or Nights

Length: 13 Weeks

Start Date: ASAP

(Much better than San Diego)

CVICU Nurses needed in Fresno, CA!

** 36 Hours (12 hour Shifts)

Hourly taxable- $31.52/$47.28= $1,323.84

Weekly stipend: $1127.00

Gross weekly: $2450.84

(Much better off in Fresno very LOW COL.)

RN-CVICU and PACU

Palo Alto, CA

CVICU – August 8th start - 8 hour days

$2455/Weekly Gross

$26.75/Hourly Rate (Taxable)

$1332/Weekly Stipend ($40.10 Non- Taxable)

$63.75 Combined Rate

(Housing going to kill you here unless you want to live with a total stranger and that to me is a NO NO. Renting an apartment for a 3 month lease on your own is 4900-5900k. I called recently)

CVICU RN'S Needed Below is Crisis rate

University of MICHIGAN

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN

Sacramento I have not seen ANY needs in that area. In fact I have seen people begging on Facebook with zero responses for ICU Sacramento jobs.

I simply ask for a rundown of the highest paying jobs from my recruiters.

Northern CA is almost always the best pay but rent is very high. I worked in central CA and was able to pay off lots of loans. Bakersfield area with certain agencies pay upwards of 60 for ICU and you can find a cheap/reasonable apartment close to most hospitals. Make sure you compare rates offered by different agencies/companies. One that I worked for and paid me very well is Westways Staffing. You know the stipend portion is non-taxed and that really helps alot

Fresno is also cheaper, I see great rates for stipends up there.

California's rates have dropped dramatically within the last year. For ER, I use to see $2500 week no problem; now most contracts I've seen are around $1800 / week or less. There are still some good rates in California, but keep in mind all the experienced nurses are probably fighting over those because there are less. I personally think it's better to work outside of California right now because you can find a comparable paying contract in an state/area with much lower housing costs than in Cali., so you can save more money. Look at the New England Area, Washington state and the Mid-west and don't be afraid to negotiate for a higher rate.
