traveling nurse in las vegas

You can do a search here for those hospitals. You are in for a rude culture shock coming from California with mandated staffing ratios and breaks. You will probably not find anyone to recommend a Vegas hospital, most that have worked there say work somewhere else and come to Vegas for a holiday.

i'm new with traveling nurse so i did apply through agency. im relocating to LV, so wanted to check how the work system there. got some offers to las vegas specifically HCA hospitals, which include sunrise, mountain view, and southern hills. any feedbacks with these hospitals? and any idea about the rate in vegas? anybody here too who works in summerlin hospital as a tele nurse? im presently working in califirnia as a tele nurse[/quote']
Vegas was my wife and I's first travel assignment, icu and medsurg. We did the assignment that you're talking about, where we floated between those three HCA hospitals. I DO NOT recommend doing that. The pay was average, they didn't cover housing, and the hospitals were terrible. 7-8 patients on the floor with no help, and no physician accessibility in the ICU. exactly no nurse patient ratio, which reminds me the days when i used to work in eastcoast... thats what im thinking about... 3 hospitals to float is insane. now im confused whether to work as traveling nurse first or just apply as a regular full time worker. i need some advice

I can tell you that out of those three hospitals for ICU, southern hills was my favorite. Great staff but it was pretty slow paced from an ICU standpoint. Really low acuity and sometimes you were treated as a stepdown nurse and could have up to 4 patients. The floors would get 7 or 8 patients. I know UNLV university hospital payed more but was pretty busy. Hope that helps

run run run, if you want to keep your licence vegas is not a good place to work. the floors there give 8-9patient one cna for 36 patients. good luck

The ratios are still the same. FYI there isn't a UNLV university hospital. The is UMC which is a county hospital.

If you can work (survive and thrive) on a vegas med/surg floor, you can work anywhere!

I work in neuro med surg at a Valley Health system hospital. 6 pts per nurse usually and 12 to 20 pts per CNA, lab techs, transport, etc. Obviously it's busy but it's not as awful as HCAs.

Did a contract at one of those hospitals you mentioned and it was horrible.

Staff was bitter (but it can be like that anywhere), most days I would have 9 patients with no help. Never got a pee break or a lunch break (they would say "oh we forgot to come and break you" ....), the charge nurse was not any help. There were contract nurses who actual left mid shift, some were crying and some were not willing to risk their license. I always felt that they(other nurses) were wanting me to fail. There was minimal direction/ help from anyone, and during orientation they never covered policies or procedures etc.

I really wanted to stay permanently in Vegas as we have many friends who live there and we love the city (not the strip so much but the actual city), but after that horrible experience I returned home and to my former job. :no: It isn't all everyone else's fault, I was warned, many times.

But now with all that said, I would return and try again but not with any of those hospitals that you mentioned. I think I would try Summerlin or the level I trauma center, I have heard good stuff about those places.
