This will be my fourth assignment, and they have been increasingly harder to get where I want. My fist assignment came quickly and everything went smoothly. But now it seems I'm having a harder with each to time get where I want to be. I even tried another company and then had it out with them because they wouldn't call me back. I needed to be near my home base b/c we are young, DH and me, and we wanted to get our house started. (already have land and a mailbox as our "home base") Every where we turn it seems we can't find anything near home. It's becoming so frustrating that I just want to say forget it and come off the road. I got into traveling for two reasons, one to see the country, which we have over the last year. And the second was to save money so we can get a house and settle down, and start a family with less bills. I wish I didn't have to be so picky with where I needed to be, but at this round I do. I wanted to be within driving distance so we could take care of things as the house process begins. I don't know what to do!!! Thanks for listening to my rant. Just needed to vent to those whom will understand. :o

What travel company are you with?

Some areas of the country just have a higher demand for travelers than others. You could try getting per diem work through a local agency, instead of a travel assignment.

Wow. Sorry to hear about this. I agree with the above post to go through a local agency to do a per diem. Even though you would like to stay close to home, it may be a good idea to try maybe 8 week assignments or shorter maybe in a neighboring state. Or if you could stay with family for the duration of an assignment in a state that is close to where you need to be, if possible. I totally understand your situation, I share a similar burden. I am considering a per diem position, or just picking a different agency and going to where ever.

Well finally decided to go with a new agency. The recruiter manager called and smoothed things out. And have a new recruiter. I'm supposed to start tom. So we'll see how the assignment itself goes. We moved into the housing and it's nice, so that's one less thing to worry about.

I had thought about trying the agency thing but since we are trying to build our house we don't have anywhere to live except with family. we had already been there for 2 weeks and I didn't want to impose any more (though it would have been cool with the parents) But with myself, husband, and the kitty cat I figured we should set out on this assignment, even though I'm still hesitant on this company. (and they know this) They are trying to help out all they can now.

I love traveling, b/c you get to see the country in ways most ppl don't, and meet new ppl. Not to mention your experience it phenomenal. But when it comes time to choose a new assignment it can drive you slap darn crazy. :angryfire So much paperwork, frustration and waiting. I can't stand it! Thanks for all your support!! Good luck to my other traveler whom are in the same waiting boat. Hope things work out!!

It's more difficult when you're destinations are limited. I've had to return to my home base and have had to work agency and purchase Cobra. Not the best, but had to do it. I work L/D so assignments are not always plentiful in certain areas.

Good Luck
