    Hi all,
We are waiting for an assignment to St Thomas. What are the issentials? What should we bring with us? I know K-mart is on the island but is there something we can't get at that Wal-mart that we might want to bring?
    Thanks for all your input!!

Bring clothes for warm weather only. Boots will be nice for the rainy season - late summer. Yes, there is a Kmart and you will find some convenience items there but they are very costly. Many nurses enjoyed package food items from home and many had someone from back home mail them.
    Good luck.

I knew you were going to ask what I mean by "packaged items." Let me see, I don't eat packaged food. But my friends brought or had sent to them entrees and side items that were sealed, not frozen of course and needing microwave only. Ramen noodles comes to mind, there's other more substantial items too. Hope I'm giving you an idea.
Oh, and of course bring money, LOL, or at least have some in the bank. I rented a mailbox - there's mail service business in the the Kmart plaza, and a car.
And bring your passports. You may want to take a boating trip over to the British Virgins. Great trip! I had a great time there. What's your specialty and who is "we"? Kevin and Christine, I presume.:spin:

    kevin and christine…

kevin has been a traveling nurse for 6 years. 3 years ago i joined him fulltime. we live in our 5th wheel fulltime and travel to our assignments. right now we are in avalon, ca. catalina island. since no cars are allowed on the island we had to take housing for the first time. the housing is a nightmare, a real nightmare!!! but the island and the people are great and we are enjoying our time here. that being said we are only on a 4 week assignment. they asked kevin to extend and he politely said “no” thank-you. if this was a 13 week assignment he would have found a way out of here. that says a lot because if you knew kevin he is very easy going and has never, never in 6 years talked about hating some assignment so bad he was going to “find” a way to get the hell out of here. we love traveling and this life style. we are really looking forward to going to st thomas, we know the housing is a crap shoot and the pay is not the best but we love the ocean, scuba and everything that goes along with it. we spend a month in cozumel in september highs 90’s and humidity in 80’s. it took a week but we got used to it. thanks for all the advice!!!! we certainly appreciate it…

I have done travel nursing in the past and spent one and one half years at St Croix and loved it. The working conditions are not all that great but, the experience was worth it all. I would love to go back to St. Croix or St. Thomas for that matter. I would love to find another single traveler that would like a travel partner to go with. Is there anyone that would like to partner up and go to the Virgin Islands for a contract? I would just rather not travel alone to the Virgin Islands. The last time I was there, a former co-worker went with me and it was so nice. I don't think I would have stayed as long if I were alone. I just wouldn't feel safe. Just a thought. Anyone interested?
