Can Anyone who has been a travel nurse and had a positive experience with it let me know of what they enjoyed about it and what agency to go with?

Also, I use EPIC in my current position. Am I able to be that specific in my request to stay with a hospital that uses the software I am trained in? Can you visit the unit and assess the morale and team work before being placed at a hospital?

I am just trying to find out if it's a journey I want to embark on. Thank you for your feedback!

I did travel nursing for a year and a half back in 2011-12, and now I am doing it again. I am on my first assignment now. It is with AMN. I would not suggest going with them or one of their subsidies. I am also working with Travel Nurse Across America, Trinity Healthcare, and Medical Solutions. They all seem like wonderful companies with high pay rates. It can be a lot of fun. The hardest part about it for me is being away from my family; although, when I stopped traveling I was not living in the same state as them anymore. I am sure you can request to stay with Epic, but I have also used Cerner and it's pretty similiar to Epic and easy to navigate. I do not know if you wold be able to visit the unit before signing, I would say probably not. I now take the housing stipend, and have found I am making much more money that way. It is not as hard as I thought it would be to find housing. I am in a corporate apartment now that had everything included including dishes and linens. Cable and wifi were even already hooked up. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Thank you LadyTiger44 for all of your information! I really appreciate it! Do you feel like the majority of units have been helpful and receptive to you being there? Is the increased pay worth some of the cons of traveling such as being away from family? Have you made some friends out of it? Are there any other cons besides being away from family? Thanks so much!

Every unit I have been on has been very helpful. Some places will require you to float first, but I never minded floating. When I do get floated I make sure to ask for a little tour, and usually everyone is super helpful. The increased pay is definitely worth it. I am currently doing this to get out of debt and see the country. I am making more money this time by taking the stipend. Being away from family has been super hard for me, but when I stopped traveling I was still away from them living in FL. I just can't take IN winters anymore! I have made some best friends out of it, who I am still friends with today, despite being miles and miles away. Hope this helps!

Hi, Im Trying To Obtain My California license. I currently practice in Iowa. After sending everything they required, they finally responded 60 days later. They stated that my transcript lacked Oral Communications. Does anyone know if it matters which Speech class (assuming thats what they mean). Anyone else had this problem applying in a state that is not a compact state? I have continuously tryed contacting the Board of CALIFORNIA but had to leave msg. No one has contacted me. Its been 2 weeks..

California is notorious for close examination of transcripts. Did their statement say you can obtain needed credits and get a license? If not, you will need to contact them for direction.

It helped a great deal! I am so glad you are having such a positive experience. Thanks so much!

I laughed out loud at your IN winter comment. Believe me, even after living here for 23 years, you never get used to it.

I agree! I grew up there, and after living there for 27 years I couldn't take it anymore. Now I wonder how I do it, because it gets to be about 65 degrees and I'm cold!

Adaption, I guess. But as soon as I'm on my feet and get a few years of nursing experience under my belt, I'm saying goodbye to this place. I've had enough of the cold and unpredictable weather for one lifetime.

Thank you for responding! No, they did not state I needed to obtain credits verbatim. QUOTE: Your transcript does not reflect completion of Oral Communications. They have given me 1 year to complete and then my application will be considered abandoned if no response. I have attempted to call several times, got through once, then got voicemail upon transfer to right dept, was instructed to leave name, etc & stated would return my call in 2-5 business days. I also emailed, its now been 2 weeks. Still nothing. I just need to know which class I should take here in Iowa that would be sufficient.. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Want to get this class done asap.
