Travel in Las Vegas?

I love nursing in Washington state but I want to try travel nursing in a fun place like Las Vegas! I've been researching hospitals in Las Vegas and the hospitals are not graded as highly as hospitals in Washington. Can anybody tell me their personal experiences working in Las Vegas hospitals? Thank you!

I've never heard of anyone enjoying any hospital in Las Vegas. It is usually the lessor of evils. Remember LV is in the middle of a very hot desert. I would recommend vacationing there, not working. Los Angeles and the Inland Empire is not that far away and you will have a much better working experience and a better climate. You can alternate weekends at the beach and Las Vegas.

I am down in Tucson, AZ right now. It is VERY VERY HOT--a desert town much like Vegas. Everyday has been 100 degrees or above. I would suggest going somewhere a tad cooler in the summer, its pretty miserable.

I've NEVER heard any good reviews from travelers regarding Vegas. Coming from a state like Washington, I'm 90% sure you would be miserable there. Take Ned's advice. CA hospitals usually follow state laws regarding ratios and are better staffed.

So far all the responses are rumors and 2nd hand. Go to the Nevada forum and research there, I've found positive stories. Like most things, the only time people speak up are when it's negative. It may be really bad, who knows, none of use do.

Ok. So I've worked in Vegas. Here's my opinion of the bigger hospital systems.

HCA facilities - great staff, high acuity, high pt ratios...and they use meditech.

Valley health system - ok but don't take an assignment at Desert Springs

St Rose campuses (aka dignity health as the were just bought) liked all of them, they are the best and highest paying in the valley, very strict on pts ratios. Some of the Siena campus staff can be catty but hey, that's anywhere you go right? They use cerner fishnet.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the responses!! :)
