Travel and Insurance....

I'm just about to sign my first travel contract... I need to buy some health insurance. My last job was Overseas, so I need to purchase some US insurance. The last job will cover the insurance purchase for three months, so I thought it good to have them cover it for my first assignment and I can take in the extra pay...When I am looking at all the coverages, they seem to be state specific. I'm pretty sure of the state, but since I have a compact liscence, the recruiter is looking at a few other states as well... so, does anyone else buy their own insurance that is recognized nationally? Or should I just wait until I get the assignment and buy it then???
Thanks travel veterans...

Does the company you are contracting with not offer insurance? This would probably be the easiest way to go. My company supplied insurance covers whatever state I am in.

My insurance is thru my agency and it covers where ever I am. Much cheaper to get it thru your agency then trying to find it on your own.

Question Insurance While on Assignment
I begin a new travel assignment the middle of next month. This will be the first time that I am taking insurance. I don't know much about what is in a good policy. I have had the same health insurance for the past 18 years, so I have taken it for granted. However, the insurance policy doesn't have out of pocket coverage. My assignments have been a quick communter flight to home, so I know if it is any big deal, I could come home.

Any snags out there with insurance with travel companies? Anything to look for or ask? I would love some input!

It will depend on what the agency has to offer, some have very good insuracne that you can slelct form, and some is just mediocre.

I know Suzanne. I just don't know what constitutes a good plan. Thanks for the response. You are so great to respond!

It is going to come down to what you need and actually use...........do you take quite a few prescription drugs, then you are going to want a policy that has cheap co-pays for them, or that gives you a large discount if you order thru their mail-in pharmacy system. Do you need to go to the dermatologist for frequent appts, then you want a cheaper co-pay for doctor's appointments, etc. How much can you afford to pay if you got ill? Usually you have choice of a couple of plans, usually one that is minimum, and one that covers almost everything. There are some where the insurance pays 90% and you pay 10%, or 80% insurance and 20% from you, or a very basic plan.

Dental is usually a separate fee, as well as optical............
Hope that this helps make things clearer for you...........
