Ready to go...

by dcm7200

So I have a year and a half of ICU experience at one of the big teaching hospitals. I have my IABP cert, work daily with SGCs and MALs, vented patients. I am beginning to feel a little bit bored... I think I work on probably the nicest unit that exists, but I don't see myself working here the next 30 years. (Not that I would mind ending up back here...) I know I don't know everything and I want to learn as much as I can. Do you think this early on I can be a good traveling nurse? I feel like this could be the perfect way to see the world, learn a lot, and do something I enjoy all at the same time.

Default Re: Ready to go...
If you are ready, then definitely start traveling. I have just finshed my first year, and I am sorry that I waited 3 years before starting it. I have been surprised by two things. First, I have been surprised by how much I have learned by going to the different units. Secondly, I have learned to appreciate my home base even more. I am nowhere near ready to quit traveling, but it does make me appreciate what was right in front of me all along. So, if you are wanting to be challenged, then GO FOR IT!!! Traveling is a great adventure, and you will not regret it.

Thumbs up Re: Ready to go...
I have to say get out there and go too. It may be more complicated in the future. I waited 2 years before going and wished i had found a way to make it happen sooner!! It is one big adventure out there waiting for you. Good luck!!
