Ratios

by lorster

I am new to this travel thing and not so sure I'm liking it. I have been there 2 weeks and so far it has not killed me but I'm also not sure I'm stronger. The other night, night shift 7p to 7a, there were 16 patients. There was 1 RN, 1 LPN, and a CNA for this shift. It is a neuro surgical unit. There were 5 patients on TPN, 2 on tube feeds and all were high acuity. Does this sound like a fair, safe nurse patient ratio? This is certainly not what I'm used to where I come from and the RN was frazzled when we came onto day shift. I'm just wanting some feedback as I start a 3 noc stretch tomorrow. Thanks.

Default Re: Ratios
That doesn't sound safe but it probably isn't uncommon either. Most of them needed to be turned q2 and frequent neuro checks? Good luck, you have 2 weeks behind ya'. Do you mind posting what city you are in?
