Question about housing


I have been a RN for 4 years and am extremely interested in travel nursing. I was wondering how easy it was to get a 2br apartment/condo with no extra cost. I have a friend that is thinking about traveling with me that is not a nurse. What are your experiences with 2br housing? If you have gotten a 2br for a little bit extra, how much more did you have to spend out of pocket? I know that it is different per city/company/circumstance...Just trying to weigh out my options before traveling!! Thanks!!

If you are just starting as a travel nurse, you definitely will need to pay the dfifference. And do your homework, some agencies do not even provide private housing.

As far as what you will need to pay, it will depend on where you are traveling to, what the prices are for 2 bedroom units in that area, etc.

Can you be more specific?

You will more than likely have to pay an additional monthly fee. In the past when I requested a 2 bedroom it was anywhere from $75 to $125 a month that I had to pay. I did luck out on my first assignment here in California and got a 2 bedroom that I didn't request and didn't have to pay for but that is not very common. You shouldn't have to pay much more than $100 or so a month unless you're going to the high dollar areas like NYC or San Francisco. When you're talking to the companies, make it clear that you need a 2 bedroom and they will tell you up front what it will cost you each month. Good luck!

I pay more than that, but I have an extremely nice apt, and with everything else included. Much larger than most others and a great neighborhood.

Look at websites that list apartments for rent. Compare one bedrooms with two bedrooms.. Then you'll see the difference. Many times the only thing available is a two bedroom ..That seems to be all I've gotten lately. So I don't pay extra. Your company can be like I am. Tell the apartment complex they'd love to rent from them and it's not your companies fault they don't have any one bedrooms. Most complex will rent a two bedroom for one bedroom $$$ rather than leave it vacant.

Thanks guys for all your help. I am definately going to do more research with it, but just wanted to see what others experiences were before doing so.

Some companies will give offer a "housing stipend" if you don't take housing through them. My fiance is a traveler and took a position to be out here in DC with me while I'm in school. We got an apartment together and he did not take housing from the agency, so instead they pay him a stipend which is something crazy like $4400 a month for housing. Not sure of all the logistics of it, but definitely something you can ask about. That way you can get any kind of apartment you and your friend want.
