Psych Travel Nursing

I've been checking into the whole travel nurse idea and was wondering if there are very many opportunities for a psych nurse in the travel world.

The travel positions for psych nurses aren't as numerous as other areas of nursing, but they are there. I've just finished a 2 year travel psych assignment in Saipan and will be starting a 13 week assignment in Boston next month. Check out Supplemental Health Care, they seem to have more psych assignments than many of the other agencies.

Can you post a link for this company?

When I did a search for "Supplemental Health Care" all I got were companies selling health ins. My best friend (psych RN 20 yrs, gero-psych) is looking to relocate to California.

Thank you!

Many offices nationwide but I am through the Buffalo, NY office since that is my "hometown".

Any of the recruiters are good but mine is Kathryn Patchel.

Good Luck!

I am in school now and my wife is a new (1yr+) nurse (PACU) and I am planning on Mental health as my specialty. We are planning on traveling in a few years and Saipan is at the top of my list. can you tell me more about the actual working conditions. I have lived in remote areas before (Sinai in the 80's) and have researched alot about Saipan living conditions , economy, and spoken with mainlanders who have lived there, but no one in the healthcare field.

I did find 2yr mental health contracts on saipan last year, but cant find it now.

I traveled with Supplemental many years ago and was very happy with them. I am thinking of hitting the open road again. Turned 50 last year and honestly have a few places I would like to live before I finish. Am presently enrolled in an MLIS program to become a medical librarian once that happens I think my opportunities for travel end.

Specializes in Mental Health/School Nursing/Corrections.

I'm planning my first assignment to Hawaii with World Wide in Maui at the state hospital, a co-worker of mine left icicles in MI and had nothing but a wonderful experience there, hoping for a ditto, anyone been? Just began my homework on all the details and planning, you know-what to do about my home, lease car, mail, housing there and the like. I'm truly excited, been considering traveling for a couple of years and just made the decision to go for it.........Wish me luck......advice appreciated! Aloha Vicky

Working in Goldsboro myself this contract and wondered which bldg/ pt population you work with. I'm not getting a good vibe about this hospital and was glad to hear you've been there for some years. Please tell me it's not as bad as it looks!

Specializes in Mostly L&D/OB, some ED, Some psych.

Hiya,

I worked at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro-staff nurse, not a traveler..

What a disaster area! dangerous and their answer to any problem that happens is just fire the nurse in charge when the problem happened.

The HCT's sleep on the job and you are told that if THEY are caught sleeping, YOU will be fired...

The RN's that care can't hang and quit...the RN's who have been there a long time are just there for the paycheck.

It certainly wasn't for me...
