Nurses week

I am at my travel job and it is the 3rd year I am traveling during nurses week. I am use to not getting something from the hospital like regular staff but there are 2 travelers that are mad. They say they have always been given something just like staff. One year I did receive a backpack from my company but last 2 years nothing. We all agree that we can just go buy the mug or pack that they get but I guess its the principle. What experience have you had?

My travel company sent me a gift, but even if they didn't, I really don't think I'd care.

I do what I do because I love it, not because I'm looking for recognition for one week out of the year from hospital administration who are basically out of touch with what goes on at the bedside anyways....

Treat yourself to something nice this week, or go out and celebrate with some coworkers- it'll be more fun that getting some $10 coffee mug with a hospital logo on it......

maybe I didnt state it right. They were not upset over not getting a gift but basically being ignored by the hospital while regular staff was recongnized. I quess I am asking what other travelers have experienced being treated as outsiders. Another instance for me is during orientation to a computer class travelers were not even allowed computer access, We had to get staff to print up labs and test results. I am enjoying traveling but being away from family, friends and my own bedroom and kitchen it just makes home feel further away when we are treated differently

I received an email from my facility via my agency regarding nurses week. It basically stated there would be special gifts given to their regular staff nurses only, however they would be offering 30 minute massages to all nurses on a certain day. The day arrived, and I had just come back from my nurses day treat I had given myself, a looong and awesome weekend in NYC with a few girl friends... My unit director asked me 3 times that morning if I had gone for my massage yet. Fantastic!
The special gift the staff nurses received was so much more than a mug with a logo. All of the docs pitched in, and you would have thought they were gift bags from the Oscars. Very nice bags loaded with very very nice stuff...couldn't help but be a little jealous, but like I said, the massage was awesome, and I did treat myself to an awesome mini-vaca...
Happy nurses week to everyone!!!

I'm glad you treated yourself. Its wonderful not having to be part of the drama and politics but today I heard something that I am not sure how I feel. A pca that appears to like me as a nurse stated "it doesnt matter if we like her or not. she will be gone soon so why worry about it." I was talking to another pca and was joking about getting on each others nerve before she said it. I know I like only having to be someplace for 3 months if its not a good place but I never thought how they think about us being short timers so no sense in getting to know us. Previous places I had staff asking me to stay or come back later.
