Not traveling and insurance

Wondering what the length of time is that you can take time off from traveling and still keep your insurance. I am unable to leave my immediate area to travel right now and there is nothing within a two to three hour drive for me. Was going to bide my time and wait for openings, but I can't not have any insurance (small child). I'm sure it isn't a long period...a month, max?
