NICU nurse-Travel to Charlotte with 3 kids?

I am hoping to relocate to the Charlotte area (Union County in particular) and am hoping to "travel"to get a feel for the area. My kids are 3, 5, and 7. Any advice on how to do this while my husband stays in NY to sell the house and keep health insurance til we get situated?!

Who is going to care for them while you are at work? What about school?
Those are going to be your biggest problems. With the smaller kids there is usually daycare available at many facilities, but you have two that are of school age.

I am thinking of traveling with children also. I have alot of good ideas, but putting them into action is the problem! School is the least of my worries...I homeschool mine. It is not as hard as people think...when kids can learn in their own environment and at their own pace, and follow their interests, they soak up knowledge like little sponges.

As for child care...you could hire a nanny to go with you, or you can try to arrange a nanny or in-home babysitter in Charlotte before you accept an assignment there. This is going to be the hard part, for me anyway...I am so picky about who takes care of my children when I'm gone.

Or....let the kids stay in NY with your husband, and let him find child care there.

HTH,
Jennifer

The thought of my dh with the kids 24/7 is enough to make me.... well let's just say it would be a disaster!
Seriously, I would like to go the au pair or nanny route, but it makes me nervous due to the fact I would be at work while they are sleeping.... I am looking for 12 hour nights. I am not big on leaving my kids in general, so this would be a major deal for me. Anyone out there have any tips? Thanks as usual for the great support and advice on this board!
