New to Travel Nursing

Hi there! I am just entering travel nursing and I am overwelmed at all the travel companies! They all seem to offer basically the same packages for me here in the North East so aside from how accomodating the recruiters are on the phone what should I be looking for?? I have been a nurse for a year and a half....any additional traveling advice since I am such a newbie??? Thanks so much, Robin

Hi, there I have been traveling for about two years. I have several suggestions based on my experience. First talk to travelers at your work and see what companies they work for and if they are happy there. Second you should apply with several companies, that way as you choose assignments you will be able to compare things such as pay. Personally I prefer companies that list their assignments on line. Lastly your benefits, make sure they start from day one. Insurance, 401K, reimbursement for travel and licenses are a must. Sometimes companies offer less on the benefits side and more on the pay side. Those decisions will be up to you and also some companies to do not travel to certain areas. So it is always good to be on with several companies.

To the OP, there are specific forums and websites devoted to travel nurses. Try googling for them: delphi travel nurse and therapists, pantravelers.org, highway hypodermics, travelnursetoolbox & others.

Word of warning: Many recruiters will pose as nurses and make posts to try and entice you to use them; or, some nurses will want to get a referral bonus, so they try to sell you on a company that will give them a hefty bonus. Either way, when they are not upfront about things, they cannot be trusted.

I have spoken with several travel companies, done all the paperwork, blah, blah, blah. I went with RNNetwork. Start my first assignment in 2 wks. Long story short. They listened to my needs and got me what I wanted. We will see how it goes, I can do anything for 13 weeks. Good luck
