I generally don't consider any assignments in the Bay Area that result in me bringing home less than $1600 per week after taxes.

Depends on your specialty, how bad the need is, etc. I wouldn't even consider that contract but that is just me.

You might want to go with a non-blended rate company. There are tonnes of companies staffing that particular hospital. That contract is not the best. Try Aces Nurse travel or Fastaff...the pay is gonna be more like $1650/wk for 40...they are on 8 hour shifts now that's why...I also wouldn't go anywhere for 32 hours a week...

Due to the high housing cost in the Bay area, most companies SHOULD offer considerably more housing stipend. When I worked in the Bay area 2 years ago, my housing stipend alone was $3500/mo. I brought home $1880/wk (including housing stipend). Consider that if you take the housing stipend for the bay area, you'd be paying approximately $2500-$3000 for a one bedroom apartment which leaves you with appox $1700 after rent is paid (not including utilities). You should demand more housing stipend if you choose this contract, as your current wage is more suitable for the Sacramento or like areas where housing is more affordable.

Thanks for all of your responses! I really appreciate the insight from all of you seasoned travelers! I did sign this contract. I understand it's less than most places but it actually works out very well for me. Any idea why this hospital dies 8's now? I was told that there is lots of opportunity to get extra hours, so ill probably do that to make a little extra. My husband and I own a home in the east bay so I won't be paying rent to anyone.

Why does which hospital in the East Bay now do eights? You never mentioned the name.

You may be better off with eights anyway. At a couple East Bay hospitals, the staff does eights and the travelers do twelves. Which means that often travelers float every four hours. That is tough for a lot of nurses who have never done that.

Sorry- another poster sounded like they knew where I was going. The hospital is Eden medical center.
