New assignment and new agency

I have just agreed to a new assignment in Southern Oregon on a Lake. It's a Mon-Fri 8:30 to 5:30pm, with no weekends, and no holidays... Unfortunately there is no opportunity for OT...but I can live with that. It is doing something that I have already done, working with a residency program in a clinic/hospital. Mostly indigent pt's and the hospital is owned by the community.

I will be the only LPN in this position, and I have been told I will be given a WHOLE week to orient! Can't believe my good fortune, as the references for this place has been very good. But you never know until you get there...so we shall see.

The new agency is Aureus Medical, and they're paying for everything including linens, microwave...TV..the works! Not only that they're also paying for my titers, my CXR(as I can't do PPDs), and since mine was five years ago, they required a new one. And they're paying for the drug screen which is kind of usual. And the pay is still good also!

I start in as soon as I get my license approved which should be in two weeks. I'm not sure I'm ready to have the possiblity of dealing with some snow, but this position will be a good addition to my already lengthy resume. I will be close to the Cali border, and close to where I evidentally want to end up.

Happy trails...

:chuckle kidsrfun I just saw this post..:chuckle! Well tomorrow is moving day! I have found a mover to do my very small move for less than it cost me to do it myself the last time. And the only thing I have to do is provide refresment to the movers, like a good host..:chuckle. They will storage my little stuff here in AZ with one month free, until I decide whether I want to take this as a perm job. Then they will deliver it to me.

The agency I work for has provided me with a 2 Bd/2 BR HOUSE with hard wood floors, leaded glass chandeliers, triple paned windows, 2 gas log fireplaces a heated garage with workshop area with a basketball hoop inside it, formal living room, formal dining room, family room with sm. bar, lg kitchen, with a patio, and a fenced yard. It also has a new Amana side by side w/water and ice in the door, and self-cleaning digital stove. Waaahaaa...but no dishwasher..boohoo..:chuckle. Greedy ain't I.:). All lawn care and snow removal taken care of by the realty company.

All this is less than the median price of a one bedroom here in Scottsdale. I have pics of the inside and we got it thru a realtor there. The owner agreed to keep all the utilites in his name with a deposit, so I wouldn't have to deal with 5 different utilites including DSL

I move in on Monday and I start my new assignment on Tuesday. I know I have a half day off Christmas and NY's EVE...but not sure about the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. But I will give RSVP your offer for Thanksgiving as soon as I find out next week. Then you will be the second allnurses.com family member I have met in person...

Wow. How very cool. Makes me kinda wish I did travelling nursing.

Good luck, Ms. Brownie, sounds wonderful! :)

Heyyyy thanks LV..:)! I can hardly wait to get there. Not looking forward to being in the cold...but it will be nice to have my own space, and not have to listen people walking over my head, or their music! And if you come my way ...let me know. I have plenty of roon now!

Be careful with Aureus. They apparently started out as a temp firm for offices and such. Unless your experience is different than mine, there won't be a nurse consultant anywhere around the place. They don't understand licenses and such or the priority of protecting the same. They expect you to do what you're told, but will "intervene" if necessary. They didn't do anything for me and weren't supportive when I felt the situation I was put into was unsafe for me and patients. They believed the story the dept manager was telling and "didn't listen" to anything I said. Again, to give the devil it's due, they are corporate and administrative folks and don't have a CLUE about licenses and how quickly they can be jerked away. I quit them before the end of my assignment so they really aren't too happy with me.

Good luck to anyone who goes with them

Hi doitt..:),

I didn't go with aureus, as I quickly found out, they weren't to be trusted. I stayed with my old company, as I was able to get the clinic to allow me to use them instead of aureus, and still keep the assignment. There is another nurse here with them, and they put her up in what they called a "bed and breakfast", but it's really called the boarding house...:chuckle! It's an old building and another traveler with another company went there and quickly moved into a motel, which even I turned down my first nite here. If the boarding house was worse than that motel, I don't even want to think about the fact, that this is where aureus was going to try and put me.

Aureus has their hands in a number of different temp services, and I think nursing just something recent for them. They have also been calling around to hospitals, trying to recruit travel nurses while their on assignment with other companies! Tacky, tacky, tacky! All you travel nurses out there...BEWARE of this comapny!

So Brownie: How is it going?

Sorry I didn't notice your post until now nightngale1998..:). But it's going great for the most part! It's been sunny just about everyday I have been here, and NO snow...:chuckle! I work with a bunch of great people, and the docs are very friendly, and really just about everyone I have come in contact with has been friendly! I work 8:30am to 5:30pm every day but Thursday, and on Thursday we break at 12:30p until 4p and then work until 8p! This is great because I get things I need to take care of during the day done.

So far they have bent over backwards for me, and I feel like royalty here :chuckle! I have a house with a large backyard, friendly neighbors that came over to introduce themselves as soon as they saw us! It's very laid back here, and hardly ANY traffic whatsoever! I come home for lunch, as I only live about 7 mins from work! My daughter loves it here, and the town has been referred to "Mayberry" many times...:chuckle.

Except for the realtor from &%$ I and the agency were dealing with in the beginning, I can't say anything bad about the place! I have been asked to hire on perm, and have been offered my choice of positiions if I don't want the one I have been contracted for! If we can come to an agreement on the pay, I will probably stay here...

Thanks for asking..:)!

YOU deserve only the best. I am very happy for you.

Hi Brownie!

I've missed the heck out of you woman! Come on over to "our place" and fill us in on your new job, etc. From what I'm reading here, it sounds like you've finally found your dream job. Good for you! I wish you nothing but the best girlfriend! :kiss

Have you heard my news? I'm going back to nursing very very very very soon....like days from now! I'm sooooooo excited! See my thread about what's new in nursing since 1997, and you can catch up on "Renee's world". :nurse:

Hey Renee,

Sorry I haven't been around much. Getting used my surrounding. I have decided not to take the job as perm, at least for now, as they couldn't meet my pay requirements. But they have extended me at least until the end of January. And since there is little luck they will find enough nurses to fill the positions here, I might be here a little longer. I have met a couple of guys here, and I really like this town. People are very friendly, and I'm enjoying the laid back lifestyle here.

Yes I heard about your new job, and it sounds great!!! I wish you the best in all that you do, and I know you will do a great job! The hospital that got you, should consider themselves VERY lucky!! I will be over to "our" place later tonite, as I have lots of email to catch up to. this last two weeks have been hectic for sure! We have had a lot going on here, and we ever got to see a live theater performance at the expense of one of the docs here. He paid for every employee of the hospital here to go see the production! I also got to meet BayladyRN, who is a traveler when she came over to visit from NV!!! We had a great time, and I enjoyed meeting her!!!!!!! We went out to dinner, and took a tour of the Birthing Center, and did some shopping! I just LOVE IT here!!
