MUSC - can anybody help me???

Hey all -

A friend and I would like to travel to Charleston, SC with MUSC being our first choice hospital. It has been two weeks since he was submitted (cardic tele) and one week since I was submitted (ICU). We hear it can take awhile due to the vast number of profiles this hospital receives but how long do we wait before we should move on? We work with different companies but both pretty much say there isn't a good way to get info on where you stand unless they call you for an interview. My friend actually left a message with the nurse manager the day after his profile was submitted but that hasn't seemed to help! We would consider Roper as an alternative but I don't want to give up too soon! Does anybody have any experience with this facility or any tips for how to get hired? Also - any thoughts on Roper?? Thanks in advance for replies!!

Stephanie

Hi, I am working on getting an assignment there in neuro and it took about 5 days to get a call back from them and getting my offer is taking a bit longer. My recruiter told me they are just a really busy place and if they like you they will call, but it may take time. Keep hope alive. HTH

Hi,
I am currently at MUSC for my first travel assignment, It took about a week for a interview but it is a med/surg unit. This hospital is great to work as a traveler in. They use a lot of travelers and we are treated very well. The orientation consist of a lot of computer time (catts) but once thru that it is excellent. Good Luck and hope you get here.

Hiring travelers is a very involved process, and MUSC uses a lot of travelers and is a huge place. Things take time, and if this is where you want to be, then you just need to give them time to get back to you.

Even though agencies send references, the facilities will and should contact references too. Make sure your references are available to be reached, as this many times will cause things to get hung up.

As for Roper, I would have not problem recommending this facility. My first travel assignment was at Roper, and I LOVED it! One of my best assignments, were I was treated very well by staff and MDs.

At MUSC I did NICU, and did not care for it at all, but that is just me. Good Luck!

I have just been interviewed for MUSC, from the time my recruiter made contact and I recieved phone screen was approx. 2 days. It may just be the fact that the critical care units are super busy? My recruiter seems to always have jobs in NC/SC areas, they are a smaller company based in NC. The nurse mgr I spoke with said that I would be able to work OT "in the main hospital", "med/surg units have needs" You might need to expand the units you are willing to work, or find another recruiter who has a closer relationship with the facility. I'm not saying mine has that, but it's always been speedy from initial calls to initial phone screen.
