Low hourly for Boston?

I'm looking into Mass Gen for my next assignment and my recruiter kind of warned me that the taxable hourly was going to be low... Low as in $16/hr. Is this normal for Boston? I know Mass Gen is an extremely desirable hospital to work at but Boston isn't a cheap city. I know this isn't going to be my "hourly" but I was kind of shocked at that taxable rate.

You want taxable pay low. What is your total compensation per hour? PanTravelers has a calculator that will help you understand different offers. It is always a good idea to get quotes from other agencies too.

What will be your weekly take home? I'm at MGH now along with several other travelers. Pay for the particular hospital is definitely not that great.

I just started doing traveling nursing and I wish there was some place we could go to to find out exactly how much our base pay should be an hr so we could negotiate our contracts better. I actually work(ed) at MGH and as a new grad I was making 30$/hr so I guess 16 isn't too bad, but I always thought Travelers made more than the staff. However from what I am seeing that isn't the case. My first travel assignment I was making 25$ less than the staff & I'm talking starting pay for new grads! I have 3 & a half years of experience as a staff RN so when I found that out my jaw nearly dropped!

The hourly rate is only a small part of your compensation. You have to include housing, meals, travel, completion bonuses, license, and health insurance. There is a handy calculator on PanTravelers that will help you figure out you total compensation and your net pay. Your can use it to compare different agency offers from the same area - now you know the fair market rate for your specialty and experience in a given location!
